The comparative, "brighter," may imply that the Inspector is a metaphorical 'light of reason', exposing flaws. The comparative may also suggest that the Inspector will progress to illuminating more as more flaws in the Birling family, eventually reaching truth.

This also links in to the theme of light and the supernatural. Light connotes religion and supernatural beings. - The Inspector acts as a representative of moral values and an 'other-worldly' presence from the beginning of the play. This progresses throughout.
