I have used MagicSchool AI in my class to help students receive feedback on their papers, as well as to help students write professional emails. Personally, AI has also helped me in crafting the never-ending load of recommendation letters my seniors need me to write within 24 hours. Although I am trying to teach my students how AI is a tool, sometimes I still feel like it is the enemy, so I want to continue to find ways to use it responsibly and effectively.

Presently, I teach Pre-AP English 2, AP English Language & Composition, and College Composition I & II. I'm part of my school's team for creating AI policy, so I'm curious about common/best practices; how we can help students master content so that they can use generative AI models ethically (if there is such a thing); and, how AI can be a tool for educators. My number-one concern is about the effects of gen. AI on critical literacy, critical thinking.

I am a writing and film instructor at Klamath Community College in southern Oregon. I’ve been using AI in the classroom for brainstorming and revision practices. In my creative writing courses, I’ve also been using it with students to create scenes and fiction elements that we analyze and play with. I’m comfortable with bringing it into the classroom, but I’m still really struggling with how many students are using it to draft their essays, especially my online students who I don’t see in the classroom each day. Furthermore, my college looks to me to be a a leader on how to integrate/handle AI in the classroom, but mostly they just want a foolproof way to make sure their students aren’t cheating. I also want this, but many of the conversations about AI at NCTE and other academic circles seem to avoid this topic (at best) or make you feel guilty about bring it up (at worst).

Hi there! I'm a district ELA Program Director for grades 5-12 in Northern New Jersey. I have been an educator for 12 years and specialized in 9th grade. We have supported our teachers in learning about various AI tools over the past 2 years, primarily MagicSchoolAI. However, this year, we began to experiment with student use as well. We scaffolded AI use in the prompt for our annual fall writing conference. Students seemed to enjoy the opportunity and teachers seemed grateful for the guidance and the chance for students to experiment outside of their classrooms. We are also encouraging teachers to experiment within their own classrooms to find tools and routines that work for them.

Upstate NY rural district. Department chair and 11-12 grade ELA. I've used AI for lesson prep (love it for vocab). Recently discovered Brisk to help write reading comprehension questions based on standards. I'm interested in building student skills with AI, especially in regards to real world/career applications.
