A livestock veterinarian will mostly work in their clinic (depending on the size and condition of the animals) and/or will travel to the property of their clients. Due to this, the amount of time spent inside and outdoors depends mostly on the type of livestock being treated. However, since most livestock animals are too large for a typical clinic, there are likely to be more cases in which the veterinarian works outside. The veterinarian will either work alone or with any other veterinarians employed at their practice, depending on the number of people on staff and the activities being performed. The typical veterinarian will work around 43 hours per week, but may be on call during the night/day. Hazards relating to this job include injuries inflicted by the animals, and zoonotic diseases.
