         <title>&quot;Sustaining Water Supply on a Pacific Island&quot;</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Problem</strong> -&nbsp;On Tutuila Island, residents rely on groundwater for their water supply. However, as of lately, seawater has been seeping into the fresh groundwater supply, exposing it to contamination. Because of this, the populations of Tutuila Island have been suffering from an uncertain water supply. <br><br><strong>Solution</strong> - With the help of the University of Hawaiʻi's Water Resources Research Center, the island was able to monitor and quantify their water supply, to avoid any unnecessary water rationings. Because of this assistance, seven weather stations, eight stream gauges, and five water level monitoring sites have been installed around the island, to allow water to be managed more efficiently.<br><br><strong>What is Being Done Today</strong> - Despite the challenge of increasing climate change, researchers and agencies throughout the Pacific Islands are currently collecting data and working on new technologies to better understand water resources to provide access to more clean water sites.<br><br><strong>Question</strong> - I wonder, will researchers be fast enough to create technology capable of supplying the island's populations with water before climate change takes it all?&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
