The Philippines is home to a vibrant and diverse pop music culture that features artists from all over the world. Artists such as Sarah Geronimo, Regine Velasquez, and Gary Valenciano have become legendary figures in OPM (Original Pilipino Music), which continues to be a foundational element. Many of the songs and ballads featured on OPM are deeply moving and represent Filipino values. Eraserheads and Rivermaya are two examples of the rock bands that have had a significant impact on the local music scene. Artistic diversity has been enhanced by the rise of independent and alternative acts, such as Ben&Ben, who have become famous for their modern sound. With passionate support for Korean groups and an appreciation for K-pop fashion trends, K-pop has recently become a major influence in the Philippines. In order for independent musicians to reach more people, social media platforms are crucial for music discovery and promotion. Filipino pop music is becoming more globally connected through collaborations between local and international musicians like Moira dela Torre's with Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna. The proliferation of new musical works is a direct result of events like the "Philippine Popular Music Festival (Philpop)" that showcase such works. As a popular music genre that reflects the distinct cultural expressions and experiences of Filipinos, OPM continues to thrive and grown in popularity despite global influences.

In this last part of presentation, I'll be presenting my analysis by using Uses and Gratification Theory about pop music here in the Philippines. What It Does and How It Feels Thinking about theory helps us understand how people in the Philippines choose and listen to pop music based on their social and psychological needs. People who listen to Philippine pop music often want to have fun, feel good, and connect with other cultures. With its wide range of styles, OPM gives Filipinos a way to show and learn about their cultural identity. For example, the emotional resonance in OPM ballads meets the need for emotional release, making it possible for viewers to connect with the music on a personal level.

The way people in the Philippines listen to pop music has also changed because of social media and digital channels. Fans are involved in online communities that support certain artists or genres. These communities give fans a sense of belonging and a shared identity. People can get new updates right away on social media sites, which helps them stay up to date on the latest trends. The Uses and Gratifications Theory sheds light on how pop music in the Philippines meets different needs, such as those for entertainment, cultural connection, and social contact. In the digital age, this creates a dynamic and interactive relationship between artists and audiences.
