• assuring them about homework, subject teachers can get together to pace out the homework deadlines

• co-construct target goals and reward system that can motivate them

• assign buddies to get her back

• build a positive classroom, including class bonding games so that they feel connected to the class

• Buddy them with someone who is regularly at school, befriend them so that they feel they belong

• Assign meaningful role that matches their strength

• Assign a work buddy to go through homework with them, assign in bite-sizes rather than giving the whole stack at a go

• Subject teachers to convene and decide how much work the child has to complete

• FTs need to close the loop and resolve situation if it is related to relationships with friends

• Positive TSR and seek to understand them through frequent check ins outside of lesson - to be their trusted adult

• Build confidence through safe and encouraging learning environment - use students’ work as artefact to be put up in class

Focus on the positive things first. e.g. Praise him for being in school. Share with him what he had missed in school. Let him feel that he had missed out on other things in school.

Sometimes they missed school not because of them but their parents. Need to understand the reasons why.

Single students out, bring them out of school to play?

• talk to parents and come out with possible solutions (co-construct these solutions) and maybe have a contract for them to agree to

2.Incentives and motivation. Give such students more praise and find ways to motivate them to attend school.

• let them know that regular attendance can lead to future opportunities (i.e give them dreams they can work towards)

• Speak to the child's parent to understand what the issues are. The child may not be able to voice their feelings to their parents so we voice how they feel to their parents.

Could it be child being bullied?

Or child does not have a routine for sleeping and waking up time?

And check with parents how school could support the child.

Work with family - might stem from family eg. Family members cannot wake up on time. Then as child is late, don't come to school.

• Reward system

Get a buddy or a good friend to sit with child and encourage child to turn up.

Intrinsic motivation - tap on students' interests to make them look forward coming to school / or create a sense of belonging within school spaces and activities so that they are engaged in school.

E.g. quick art jamming sessions in the morning, games, quizzes with students.

Partnership with parents and child - setting up of routines, time management to encourage students to self-manage and self-discipline in preparing for school.

Communicating with student - understand reason for absenteeism - friendship issues etc.

jokes aside. good to check-in with parents to find out the underlying causes for absenteeism and address it as much as we can.

Introduce star system to promote student's attendance

Involve parents and regular monitor of attendance and contact parents for absentees.
