         <title>(1898) The Spanish American War </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brief Description- </strong>On April 21, 1898, America declares war on Spain after Spain sinks the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor and public outcry from the American People in Support of the war. America defeats Spain on August 12, 1898, and in the aftermath of the war the U.S. would gain control of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines.            </p><p><br></p><p><strong>Brief Explanation- </strong>The Spanish America War is the first time we see America gain new lands oversea and expand its empire.          <title>(1916) The Naval Appropriations Act </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brief Description- </strong>The act essentially enlarged the U.S. Navy to be able to compete with other European Nations. The bill would call for 42,000-ton battleships, six battlecruisers, ten scout cruisers, fifty destroyers, and sixty-seven submarines to be built, although the battleships would be scrapped for smaller boats needed for WWl.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Brief Explanation- </strong>This is the first time we see the U.S. actively trying to update its military for war being fought in the water and wanting to be able to compete against European Nations's armies. America's military is one of the reasons the U.S. is a world power today, and this is the first instances we the U.S. coming into that role. </p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>(1919) Treaty of Versailles </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brief Description- </strong>Treaty negotiated and signed in 1919 by the Allies ending WW1. Treaty would determine who would control the broken Austro-Hungarian and Otto man Empires. The treaty also placed the guilt and compensations on Germany.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Brief Explanation-</strong> This is one of the first times we the U.S. playing a major role in negotiating with other major countries in a global issue. Another thing that makes the U.S. such a world power is it involvement in many social and economic problems that happen in the world and its involvement in these problems. Also, the war showed how much of an impact the U.S. can cause due to its major contributions to ending the war.</p>]]></description>

         <title>(1944) D-Day</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brief Description- </strong>One June 6, 1944, British, Canadian, and Amercian forces would land on the beaches of Normandy, France in an effort to secure a final victory in the war. The invasion is known as the largest land and water assault in history and the invasion would be the turning point in the war that helped the allies win WW2.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Brief Explanation- </strong>This invasion would showcase just how powerful the U.S. army is and again it showcased the rise on how the U.S. became the world power it is today through its involvement in WW2. Being a part of the largest land and water assault in history shows how the U.S. was really coming into its role as a major world power.<strong> </strong>          </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <title>(1945) The Atomic Bomb Dropping</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brief Description- </strong>On August 6, 1945, America would drop an atomic bomb called "Little Boy'' in Hiroshimi, Japan and on August 9, they would also drop another atomic bomb called "Fat Man" in Nagasaki, Japan. The atomic bombs would force Japan to surrender, and it would call for the end of WW2.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Brief Explanation- </strong>This is the first time we see the use of atomic bombs in warfare and this event showed how advanced the U.S. is in military and technology compared to other countries. The bombings would also show off how much the U.S. had risen as a world power through its involvement in WW2.         </p><p><br/></p>]]></description>
