环境保护越来越重要。因为世界的人口今天差不多七十亿，自然自由越来越难找。植树对环境有很多好处，比如说，像新鲜空气，美丽的风景，动物住的地方什么的…… 。树不是一次性的次源。人们可以砍树有火的木。烧木比烧煤对环境有更少的坏处。利用树很有益，所以植树使木和树取之不尽。

**task2高级版-阿拉斯加没有那么多的白色污染，空气很新鲜。到处都是绿色的。阿拉斯加的环境比弗吉尼亚比较安静。美国政府应该有动机把国民多回收，多用取之不尽的能源。如果政府也有收税让国民在超市付钱买包，就更好了。

我的同学们去了很多挺有意思的地方！大家旅游的旅游，上课的上课，都很忙。

我先来弗大上经济课-----我先在弗大上经济课。

十年后我要不要住在哪里？住在美国吧，没有那么多的机会用印尼语说话吧；住在印尼吧，我随时都要用印尼语说话。虽然我的照片里是巴里（印尼的海滩）可是我觉得在印尼随访最合适我。特别是很大的城市，比如说雅加达。这个城市的活动多得不得了。随时可以找到很好玩儿的活动。泗水小于雅加达，可是哪儿的环境没有那么多污染。泗水跟巴里很近，去巴里旅行很方便！在巴里到处都是海滩，大家轻松轻松。

Additionally, the character learning can be a personal thing, you can try putting characters in a sentence to remember them, or make up some crazy or interesting stories to help you remember them etc. Of courese, practice enough is the most important, but when you realize that even though you have practiced a lot of times you still can't remember some certain characters, then stop and try other ways, maybe 2 ways mentioned above or any other ways you think are helpful.

Regarding our higher level grammar structures, one efficient way to learn and review would be essay correction. Each time when you get feedback from Laoshi, I strongly recommend you to read through feedback carefully and try to rewrite this paragraph with more new words/grammars based on Laoshi's revised version. It may help you learn to be an independent learner/writer as well.

I hope our book project can serve as a more functional role in helping you consolidating your grammar and vocab.

Some of you have mentioned that you think our class size now is very good which I totally agree with , though you may be "forced" to speak more frequently than before. Don't be shy or scared to speak in front of your classmates, feel free to get inspired by your classmates. You are taking a language course, so take advantage of small class size , try to talk more with new word/grammars when you discuss with partners rather than being satisfied by using the "old" knowledge.

I really have enjoyed this class so far. My only issue was with Lesson 19; we didn’t know a good number of the vocab in the dialogue, and only about half of said characters were on the vocab list. Therefore, I had a lot of trouble reading it. I then had significant trouble with the homework, and ended up spending about 2-3 hours per assignment on the workbook homework. Otherwise I’ve loved this class, it’s a perfect level of discussion and I never feel looked down upon when I don’t understand the concept. Overall I’m really happy I switched into such a great class.

乞丐在中国是一个很大的难题。有些乞丐原来是身体健康的人然后出了什么严重的事故而去城市里做乞丐。这样的乞丐是不得已，对他们来说是很难找别的方法赚钱。这种的乞丐我会很同情他们。但还有一种的乞丐有意去乞讨甚至组织小违法的团伙。他们逼迫小孩跟他们一起去乞讨因此让他们看起来更可怜就赚更多钱。我住在中国的时候我许多次看到乞丐跟睡觉的孩子们。看到乞丐的时候我们怎么会知道是哪一种的乞丐？这个问题是很难解决。

不过邵老师有一个问题：如果大学免费，谁来给教授工资？谁来建立jian4li4图书馆、教室呢？ 美国政府可以解决得了所有大学的经jing1费fei4问题吗？欢迎大家在这里交换想法和意见~！

美国高等教育存在着各种各样的问题其中是学费太贵。大多数学生毕业的时候负担很大的学生贷款，一些人三十年以后还没偿还。在表面上让政府付跟多学生的学费是很容易的解决其实这个措施会造成一些问题。比如说大学会增加它们的学费。这样的问题已存在因为政府已在给大学很多经济方面的帮助。这个问题不是那么容易解决而是很复杂。还有个问题是有些大学的专业不是很有用的。学生们因为对一个专业感兴趣就选那个专业没上到会帮他们找工作机会。许多学生们毕业以后不得已找跟他们的专业没有关。

We choose this time of the semester to do this wall post because we  hope you will get the following things from doing this post (1) analyzing your current writing skills in Chinese (2) reflect on tools and practices that can help to improve your writing (3) avoid your own mistakes in the upcoming test2

We would suggest you to have some of your writing in hand, observe what/how you have done and then reflect. Writing materials can be: write/printed homework from recent week5-week8; wall post first draft  and/or advanced version and/or the version with feedback; test1 take home essays etc.

Here are some guiding questions for you:

1.What are some “bottlenecks” for your writing? Is it lack of knowledge of a certain grammatical structure or rather just taking an easy “Panda” way out? Etc.

2.What have you improved in writing? Such as forming longer sentences, writing in a more logical way in Chinese? Etc. And what have you done to achieve that?

3.Please set a list of 5 mistakes you have made from your writing so far, and list the correct ones with a  simpleexplanation on why the correct one is correct in a Chinese way. Set these five as something that you will definitely avoid in our upcoming test2 writing.

Example: I made a mistake in A对B感兴趣, I wrote 中文对我感兴趣，yet the correct one is  我对中文感兴趣。The mistake is made because in English we say To Me,… is interesting, yet in Chinese the subject is the generator for the action and in this case the action is 感兴趣，so the subject should be a person.

4.In terms of classroom instruction and written feedbacks, how do you find the following useful/not useful? Such as the wall-first draft-advanced level cycle, a feedback ppt on grammar issues from homework, the one-on-one meeting after major tests etc. etc.

5.Any constructive suggestions for the class instructions to help improve your writing?

2) In “我们都要继续改善教育问题”, I should change ‘改善’ with ‘解决’ because ‘解决’ is used for ‘solving problems’ whereas ‘改善’ is used for improving situations.

3) I made a mistake in writing “他们对观客留下了很深的印象”. Instead of using ‘观客’, I should have used ‘观众’ because ‘观众’ means ‘audience’.Also, instead of using ‘对’, I should use ‘给’ instead because I meant to say “give the audience a very deep impression”.

4) I made a mistake in writing “我认为美国教育的素质在很多方面很高”. Instead of using ‘素质’, I should have used‘质量’ because ‘素质’ is only used for people.

5) I made a mistake in writing “不见得在乎他们受到的知识是什么”. ‘受到’ is always used for a negative influence, so I should change it to ‘学到’ instead.

6.恩惠 - 乞丐问题

乞丐在中国是一个很大的难题。有些乞丐原来是身体健康的人然后出了什么严重的事故而去城市里做乞丐。这样的乞丐是不得已，对他们来说是很难找别的方法赚钱。这种的乞丐我会很同情他们。但还有一种的乞丐有意去乞讨甚至组织小违法的团伙。他们逼迫小孩跟他们一起去乞讨因此让他们看起来更可怜就赚更多钱。我住在中国的时候我许多次看到乞丐跟睡觉的孩子们。看到乞丐的时候我们怎么会知道是哪一种的乞丐？这个问题是很难解决。

This 恩惠’s wall task is very well-written. I agree with her opinion that there can be different types of beggars and they might have different reasons and backgrounds for living as beggars. I also believe that because it is so complicated, dealing with beggars can be very difficult. I didn't notice any big mistakes in this post, but I think it would have been better if she used commas between some expressions so that they don’t appear to be run-ons.

2. In writing I have made progress with adding new vocabulary and writing relatively more lengthy sentences. Observing patterned sentences has helped me feel comfortable doing that.

3.Please set a list of 5 mistakes you have made from your writing so far, and list the correct ones with a  simple explanation on why the correct one is correct in a Chinese way. Set these five as something that you will definitely avoid in our upcoming test2 writing. 

Example: I made a mistake in A对B感兴趣, I wrote 中文对我感兴趣，yet the correct one is  我对中文感兴趣。The mistake is made because in English we say To Me,… is interesting, yet in Chinese the subject is the generator for the action and in this case the action is 感兴趣，so the subject should be a person.

a. I made a mistake with the use of 造成 and 取得. I wrote "取得很多垃圾“, but 取得 is followed by an achievement (always a good result), and I should have used 造成 because it is always followed by a negative outcome.

b. In my use of 所, I did not follow it with a verb, but it should be 所＋verb.

c. In my use of 有意＋to do something, I said "有意于研究“. I should have said "有益用动物做实验“. I was confusing 有意 with "有益." "有意“ means interested, but 有益 means useful or beneficial.

d. before i wrote "通过保护环境“, but there has to be a noun that is the medium, not just a verb such as 保护。 a correct way to use this would be to add a noun, for example "通过什么做法可以保护环境“。because here "做法" is a noun that corresponds with 通过。

e. recently i said 是＋adj, this cannot be! 是 is always followed by a noun, it is 很＋adj!

4. The wall-first draft-advanced level cycle, feedback ppt on grammar issues from homework have all been helpful tools that I've made use of.

6. I am always impressed by 艾一山的墙上。He is so good at combining new and old grammar structures to make complex and authentic sounding sentences! Go Ian!

2. Even though I have to force myself, I think that I have made progress in incorporating new grammar structures into my writing. I feel that incorporating new grammar structures has helped the flow of my writing.

4. I feel that the feedback we get on all of our written assignments is very helpful. Shao Lao Shi's comments help me realize where I tend to often make mistakes. Also, there really isn't anything that I can think of in terms of class structure and feedback that would be beneficial.

6. First of all, I am always amazed by how good all of the wall posts are. It actually helps me to read the wall posts because that way I can see more examples of how new grammar structures have been used. Yin Xiu's wall posts are very impressive because they always seem to incorporate the new grammar structures. One wall post in particular is her 美国教育问题 post. I think it is very well written and I also agree with many of her points.

Five mistakes that I have made on writing so far in 3010:

a. I have already mentioned that I have a tendency to flip the order of characters, this is a dumb mistake but I realize that I make it fairly often. For example in a recent 听写 I wrote 响影 instead of 影响。

b. I used the new grammar structure 在。。。下， incorrectly two Wall posts ago. I said "在我看来现在在美国教育项目下。” The use of this grammar structure is incorrect because an abstract subject needs to be placed in-between the 在。。下。In order to make this sentence correct by incorporating the 情况 into the sentence. 在美国教育的薄肉情况下。

c. When using one of the new grammar structures I made a mistake: “美国教育不但不是世界上最好的教育项目，反而是世界上第二十七最好的教育项目。First, I misused the word 项目，and should have said 系统。Lastly saying “是世界上排第二十七最差的教育系统” would make this sentence a little better.

d. This sentence is from a wall post of mine. First of all it is very long and it could have been written better. One way to improve this would be through not repeating the subject. “如果中国小孩上小学和初中的时候需要努力地学习，而且他们学的东西比美国的小孩子学的很多。I could improve upon this sentence by saying 在中国，小学与初中的学术水平高于美国学生的水平。

e. Lastly, in my writing I incorrectly used the new grammar structure “有益于／无益于. I would say A 有益于B and not finish the sentence. For example I would say 去中国留学会有益于我的中文。In order to make this sentence correct I would need to add “水平” to the end of the sentence. 

2.) My writing has improved a lot from the beginning of the course. In my previous Chinese classes in China, composition writing was not focused on at all. Starting this course I had barely any practice in formal writing. I think the biggest help with improving my writing is the constant practice, as challenging as it is, and continual feedback.

3.)

1. I used 人口in reference to animals but I should have used 数量 because 人口can only be used with people not animals. Using the word “population” in English to refer to animals would be correct usage of the word, but in Chinese it is different. I can remember this in the future by thinking 人口 only had 人not 动物！

2. I wrote 没想起来 when the correct phrasing is 不会想起来. This is an improper use of 没 instead of 不and also it makes more sense to say “no able to think of” instead of “not think of”.

3. I often use 的when I don’t need one, and also forget to put a 的when there should be one. This mistake I find very difficult to correct on my own, and I think I need to keep looking at each specific case in order to get a feel for when I need it and when I don’t.

4. I used 并to connect two sentences when 并cannot be used to connect to sentences but only phrases. I could have used 而.

5. I wrote 没有关 instead of 没有关系的工作, which 关系can’t be shorten to 关.

6.) I think 一山-美国教育问题post has a lot of good points and is well written. In class we didn't talk about America‘s elementary through high school very much since we focused on college, but it is the foundation for higher education. He has an interesting and shocking statistic about America being 27^th in the world for education, particularly in math and science. It goes to show America really does 重文轻理！

- 好不容易 was one I had a lot of trouble with using correctly; I thought it just meant "difficult" while it actually meant "finally." - I have an tendency to use 的 even when it is unnecessary. - I previously made a mistake in using 所; I did not follow it with a verb (e.g. 所有) - I made a mistake in using 任何 － the mistaken sentence was 想找到任何工作, although I could have improved it to 可以作任何的工作。 - I have mixed up 不关心 and 不在乎; the former means "to not care," while the latter means "to have no interest." 4. The written feedback is really helpful and a major reason why I feel my Chinese has improved a lot this semester, and the wall tasks are effective in the sense that we are allowed some freedom as to write for homework, challenging us to be creative while still being grammatically correct. 6. I am always amazed at the very high level of writing from my classmates; they motivate me to do better.

3. Five examples of corrections:

1. In a wall post, I said “很多美国大学生上大学买不起。When I should have said 不付。I wanted to say they couldn’t afford to pay, but不付 would have been better than 买不起.

2. In the same post I said, 一年比一年不好。I should have said 一年比一年差。This was the correct way

to use the grammar structure instead of 不好.

3. I’ve also said 非常生病，when I should have said 的病很严重。This was the correct way to say that an illness was serious, because you can’t use非常生病.

4. To make my writing more of a 3^rd year level, I’m also going to try to use 例如，因此，在我看来 instead of 比如，因为，我觉得。This would make my sentences more advanced

and I always forget to use them.

5. another example of an instance where I could have used a different grammar strcutre was whne I said 我的梦想是。。。when I should have use A把B当成C.

4. I found the one-on-one meeting after the tests to  be the most useful because it helped me to talk through my mistakes. I like that laoshi corrects everything that we write so that we have the opportunity to make everything better, but having her there while I read over the corrections made a really big difference.

5. I’m not really sure what feedback to give because I think I’m learning a lot, so if we could do more of the same thing, I think that would be great.

6. I really like reading everyone’s posts because I learn a lot from them, but I always like when people use old grammar and new grammar because it shows me how to do it and I try to remember it for next time.

Five examples:　

１．） Knowing where to use 的 at times has been confusing, but I feel like I have a better understanding of it. One example was on the first test.

2. ) Another problem is getting confused with the nouns and adjectives. At times, I have used them interchangeably instead of when they should be used.

3.) Basic syntax of where the time and place in the sentence are located: I have often put place at the end of the sentence instead of after the subject. For example, 我开车在城市when it should be 我在城市开车。

4.) Trying to do direct translations: Chu Laoshi talked about the difference between authentic Chinese and Panda Express Chinese, Panda Express Chinese being poorly translated Chinese from English. I have learned not to rely on Google Translate so much. Instead, I rely on my book and corrections, as well as Pleco (a better Chinese/English dictionary phone app).

5.) Length: I have been consistently writing longer and longer wall posts. It is more fun to apply my newly learned Chinese grammar. I am really into learning Chinese and really want to become fluent. I simply didn't realize at first that they were supposed to be as long as we could make them. I have been making an effort to write at least 7 lines.

a) I started a sentence with “自我看来说” which had two mistakes. The first was a typo: I wrote “zi” instead of “zai” and didn’t notice. The second was the “说，” which is unnecessary in Chinese. I think of “在我看来” as “I’d say” or “in my opinion,” so I tacked on the “说” unnecessarily to make it more like the first translation, “I’d say.”

b) My third sentence started with “第一给方法帮人是…” which also had two mistakes, the first (“给” instead of “个”) being a typo and the second (“帮人”just being unnecessary, as the topic had already been introduced earlier in the paper.

c) My sentence “第三个是发展新的小政府工作” didn’t make sense. I was trying to say “We should make small jobs in government” (in order to aid poor people in finding jobs), but I translated it word-for-word from English, meaning I butchered the sentence. I should have tried to say “政府应该帮穷人找工作,” which would have implied the same thing but would also be grammatically correct.

d) I used the word “多” instead of “大” to modify the phrase “找工作的竞争.” There is not “many competition,” there is “a big competition.”

e) I used the phrase “一天比一天会减少,” but you should always put “会…” before the adjective.

4. I think the one-on-one meeting is great, and I also love the constructive advice during class (for example, “that is first tone, not fourth” or “here’s a better way to say that”). I find it helpful to be corrected as I go, so I’ve appreciated that during this course.

5. The powerpoints have some great examples but rarely actually tell how to use the grammar structures. So instead of just saying “here are some examples,” it might be helpful to say “the structure *我和她做activity” means “we do an activity”

6. 艾米’s posts are always very thorough, and I’m impressed by how much effort she puts into them. She also posted a beautiful picture for the wedding wall post, and wrote a very detailed description of the story behind it.

我觉得这个条保险套广告很好笑。这个小孩儿是有名。她的家人和她又穷又本。他们没有很多钱还有他们的力学很低，因此很多人觉得他们不应该有孩子。 在我看来，有钱也是好，没有钱也是好，都是好要是他们爱你的孩子。 很多人反对我的看法。人们觉得要是你要一个孩子，你应该有钱也有一个家。 要是你没有这个 东式， 你应该用保险套。这个条保险套广告赞成他们的看法，因此这个条保险套广告说，“你应该用一个保险套，要不然你可以有一个孩子很本。

我觉得在美国，寂寞的孩子也很多。一项心里测试要显示， 美国孩子存在异常的问题。在我看来，如果我们分析一个孩子的家庭，就可以表明一个孩子的心理障碍的原因。如果父母忽视他们的孩子，那这个孩子就可能存在心理障碍。生了孩子以前，夫妻应该考虑他们的状况怎么样，他们的教育怎么样，他们的只是关于孩子怎么样？夫妻应该察觉他们的能力：他们很健康？他们经历怎么样？他们的经历够不够？

在我眼中现代儿童存在着问题。一方面是现代儿童花的时间用科技太多。发达的科技当然方便家庭的生活，但儿童用太多科技的话会障碍他们的成长。孩子看电视剧，玩电脑游戏等等令他们开兴，然而这样无益于身体健康。我小的时候父母限制我们用科技的时间，反而每天我在外面玩儿的很开兴。我觉得有些父母由于他们自己不要照顾孩子就让孩子看电视剧。另外，孩子用科技的时候不跟朋友交流，并孩子找朋友有益于心理健康。我认为父母尽可能多花时间跟孩子。
