I was barmitzvahed ontop of Masada in Israel with my grandfather at a very special and unique ceremony. It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. The ceremony took place at sunrise, with the sun slowly rising above the horizon and casting a beautiful light over the ancient ruins of Masada. The view was breathtaking, and I felt so connected to my Jewish roots. The ceremony itself was very traditional and included the reading of prayers, the recitation of the Shema and the singing of songs. My grandfather put tefillin on me as a symbol of my commitment to Judaism and I recited my bar mitzvah blessing. The ceremony was a beautiful and emotional moment for me and my family, and a moment I'll always cherish. After the ceremony, we had a small celebration with family and friends and we all shared stories about our connection to Judaism and Israel. It was a truly unforgettable experience that I'll cherish forever.

My brother's bar mitzvah was a special occasion that I'll never forget. On the beach in Tel Aviv, my father, grandfather and I watched as my brother read from the Torah and said the blessing over the wine. The rabbi gave a speech, talking about the importance of the mitzvah and how it would shape my brother's life. After that, my brother was given a tallit and a kippah, and he was officially a bar mitzvah.

I have many fond memories of visiting my grandpa's home in North Carolina. Every time I went, I was welcomed with open arms, and I felt like I was part of the family. We would spend days going fishing, skiing, and golfing. During the evenings, we would usually hang out in his living room, telling stories, and just talking about life.My grandpa was always so patient with me. He taught me how to fish, even how to tie my own lures. He taught me how to ski, and how to read the greens for golfing. During the summer, he'd take me out on his boat and we'd explore the nearby lakes and rivers, and then stop to have a picnic at a nearby park. I have so many wonderful memories of my time spent with my grandpa in North Carolina. In all, I must have gone to his home hundreds of times over the years, and I'm so glad I did. He was a wonderful man, and I'm so grateful for all the time I got to spend with him.

My grandfather was born in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. His mother was a prisoner in the camp, and he was born there under horrific circumstances. He never spoke much about his experiences in the camp due to the fact he was young & its not a vivid memory to recall, but his life was shaped by the trauma and suffering he witnessed there. His story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, and a reminder that we must never forget the horrors of the Holocaust.

He was part of the wave of European immigrants who settled in Canada after the Second World War. He left his home country with little but his courage, determination, and faith. He was able to make a new life for himself and his family in Montreal, where he found a job and eventually made a life for himself in the city.

My grandfather would watch my flag football games at the JCC by coming to the games and sitting in the stands. He would cheer me on and give me advice throughout the game. He would also take pictures of me in action and video tape the games for us to look back on. He would also talk to other parents and grandparents about the games and chat with them about the team’s performance. After the games he would come down to the field and congratulate me on a job well done. He was always a great supporter and it meant the world to me that he was there to watch me play.

We also visited some of the quaint restaurants and cafes, which had delicious food. My grandfather provided financial support and advice as I worked to save up enough money to cover the costs associated with relocating and attending the university. My family was also incredibly supportive, offering emotional support and helping to pack and load my belongings into my car when I was ready to depart. They all had faith in me, and encouraged me to pursue my goals even when I felt overwhelmed. I am forever grateful for their support.
