I think it schould be like a calendar form  to be easier to book. Also it schould be more visible. We have tried to send emails to the teachers thru Moodle however I don't think it reaches the teachers because I had no answer. 
I would do the weeks/weekly classes more visible as well, like in boxes higlited the one we are in and smaller the past and future. 
The submission part it's a little to difficult, jumping from one window to another and then another so we can manage to attach the file. It must be an easier way to do so. 
Also maybe we can add some tools inside Moodle like notes section, reminders, etc
