The color scheme, the blend of orange and green along with the use of red/orange as the highlight in the painting captured my attention. This is one of a few art pieces in which the artist adds bold colors. I also believe the time and difficulty to incorporate bold colors in a peaceful painting emphasizes the great value of this art work.

I was stunned by the design of the dragon on the bottle. The piece reminds me of designs placed on china plates. However, this piece is better because the design is more 3D. Although, considering the time period the object was created, I believe the design and the dimension adds to the significance of the skill as well as the material which was used in the art piece. I am curious about how the artist was able to dye the glass and what materials were used to create the extra layers of the design. 

 

Title: Chalice

Year (if known): 1230-50

The Chalice was theorized to have been made in Freiburg im Breisgau, Upper Rhineland, Germany and is entirely comprised of silver, gilded silver, niello, and jewels. For something made during that time where their tools were not as advanced as modern day ones are, there is an incredible amount of detail. It was used for religious purposes and thus has images carved into it from scenes in the bible. This piece caught my eye over the others I saw of the same medium because of the incredible intricacy of it. You can see every detail of every carved leaf which just shows the focus the artist put into this. After all this time, the strength in the metal has left it perfectly preserved. The value of it comes from both the religious value and the skill it takes to make something this difficult.

Title: Vase with serpent mounts

Year (if known): Glass: 1897–99, Mounts: 1899–1904

Glass is such a fragile thing to work with, and because of how hot it has to be when molding it, it can also be a bit dangerous. This piece looks absolutely stunning in its finished form. The way the colours were incorporated into the glass and the snakes around it add another level to it overall is stunning to look at. I have never seen this technique used on glass before and I think that’s why it stood out to me over the others. One wrong tap to the body and the whole thing will shatter, so it must be treasured while it lasts.

Year (if known): Qing dynasty (1644-1911)

This piece was carved out of soapstone. From my understanding, stone is a very difficult medium because you can easily chip off more than you meant to or accidentally crack it with too much force in the wrong place. As you can see from the picture, this piece has so many gorgeous details of birds, trees, flowers, branches, etc. None of which are easy to paint, much less easy to carve into stone complete with texture and depth. I also really like the brush of colour near the bottom of the pot, it really makes the details pop.

What really stood out to me in this painting is the lifelike features of wrinkles and realistic folds in the clothes. I highly doubt the artist was able to get the woman and babies to keep those exact poses for days on end, so the fact that Reni was able to capture such realistic details is absolutely incredible. The wrinkles look soft as well, as if this were a photo taken instead of a painting. Furthermore, the artist showed the babies interacting with the woman’s clothing causes folds to form under the weight, which also causes more depth shown through its light and shadows. Overall, it is a beautiful piece that obviously took years of practice with the technique in order to achieve such realism.

Year (if known): 12th - 15th centuries

This manuscript caught my eye because of the angle it was drawn at. Being made somewhere between the 12th and 15th century, most art depicts people from an angle as if the viewer were standing right in front watching it happen. Here, the artist drew it from a high angle overlooking the city. It seems to be drawn at two separate times as well, the one on the right seems to have more surrounding buildings and a different structure inside the blue-walled barrier, indicating a passing of time. I do wonder if there was something to help the artist get that high up to draw the city at that angle (perhaps the surrounding mountains?) or if the artist imagined it themselves.

This piece catched my eye because of the snake as the handle. I thought it was pretty cool how that was a handle.

This Piece is more interesting than the others because like how I said of the snake, and I really liked the pattern on the vase.

I think it comes from the idea the artist had many artists have inspirations from their past life and maybe this is something that could’ve been from something in his life.

This piece was more interesting than the others I found because of the texture in the wings and the stick or sword in her hand.

This picture was amazing because its about christ and what really caught my eye was the colors used on the concrete which truly amazed me because i feel like it would be so difficult to do this . I feel like this piece has a lot of value to it because it has so many details that go into it.

I found this art piece interesting because of a similar dish I have at home.

This piece is more interesting than the other concrete pieces because it looks like a plate.

I think the artist made this to something simalir to their life or something that reminds them of their past life.

Tiffany lamps is what I pick for my glass material 
A Tiffany Lamp designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany and colleagues in the year 1893 forward tiffany lamps it is a type of lamp with a camed  glass shade  and made in originals in Tiffany  his design studio. The glass in the lamp shades is put together with the copper foil technique instead of leaded, the classic technique for stained glass windows. Tiffany lamps are considered part of the Art Nouveau movement. A considerable number of designs were produced, from 1893 onwards.   aTiffany lamp or Tiffany style lamp has been often used to refer to stained leaded glass lamps
