In chapter 1, the main type of propaganda is bandwagon. In the chapter old major gathers all the animals to the barn for a meeting. He tells them how he is not going to be around for much longer and how rebellion needs to occur. He says that man is the root of all problems and if there is no man then the animals will be able to live free. This is an example of a bandwagon because he is encouraging the animals to join the movement and revolt against the humans.

In chapter 2, the main type of propaganda is transfer. The transfer technique is used to describe a place known as sugar-candy mountain which came about from Moses the raven and could represent heaven. He uses positive words and mentions things like how it is Sunday seven days a week, clover was in season all the year-round, and lump sugar and linseed cake grew on the hedges. These ideas made some animals believe it was a real place and the pigs had to try very hard to persuade them otherwise.

In chapter 3, there are multiple ways the pigs use propaganda the first is with Logical Fallacies, they try to get the point across they should eat and drink the milk and apples for first they are the leaders and are the smartest, then they claim “science” proves they need it for their mental health. Next they use fear in saying Mr. Jones will come back if they don’t have the milk and apples to finally get the animals to be okay with their doings. (Pg 23)

In chapter four there are a few different ways propaganda is spread about the farm. The first that occurs in this chapter is bandwagon this is with how Napoleon has a messenger tell other farms of the rebellion and that they should too. (Pg. 37) Then there is Name calling when Snowball has his speech after the battle of cowshed and says “the only good human is a dead one” (Pg. 43) The last bit of propaganda in this chapter is Patriotism after the medals of Bravery took place, the pigs led in the singing of Beasts of England and fly their flag on the flag pole for the first time.

In chapter 5, the main type of propaganda used is fear. In this chapter, Snowball develops and finishes his plans for a new windmill to be built. To decide if it is going to be built Napoleon and Snowball hold a debate on it. After Snowball begins to speak then Napoleon releases his army of dogs upon Snowball and chases him off the farm to never be seen again. Soon after Squealer gathers the animals to give a speech about the subject. He says that the plans for the windmill have been Napoleons all along and that Napoleon knows what is best for the animals. Then he goes on to say that if they disobeyed him then Jones would come back. This sparks fear in the animal's eyes and forces them to agree.

In chapter 6, the main type of propaganda used is in the form of gaslighting. The pigs use gaslighting to make the animals believe something else and make it seem like their beliefs are wrong. An example of this is when Squealer gives a speech to the animals about beds when they realize the commandment has been changed. Squealer said that the commandment had always had “No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets” (67) but that was not true. He goes on and manipulates their beliefs until they are fully convinced. Another example is when Napoleon gaslights the animals to believe that Snowball destroyed the windmill rather than the huge thunderstorm that occurred. To make the animals truly believe him he goes to the extent of rewarding anyone who kills him a full bushel of apples.

The two common forms of propaganda in this Chapter are Gas lighting and Name-calling. This can be found from Pages 78-82. Name calling is used with how the pigs associate all the farm's struggles and is attributed to snowball and saying how he is a traitor. Gas lighting is also used in these pages which squealer lies about Snowball being partners with Jones from the start. Then fear is used when Napoleon threatens the hens to give up their eggs or else.

In chapter 8 the main type of propaganda is simply gaslighting. Squealer uses this when he is changing some of the commandments like “No animal Shall Drink alcohol” to No animal Shall Drink alcohol… to excess” (Pg. 109) and also that “No animal shall kill another animal” is now “No animal shall kill another animal… without cause” squealer also uses this when he tells the animals that the farm is prospering and is growing exponentially

In chapter 9, the main form of propaganda used is gaslighting. Squealer uses gaslighting in his speeches to trick the animals into believing something that is not true. An example of gaslighting in chapter nine is when Squealer gives a speech to the animals about being with the boxer till his last breath. And that the van that took Boxer away was previously owned by a horse slaughterer was bought by the hospital. As he whisked his tail and skipped side to side he convinced the animals that what he had said was true. (124-125)

In chapter 10, the main types of propaganda used are weasel words and re-writing the past. In Squealers speech he uses weasel words to exaggerate the extent of the pigs labors. He says, “The pigs had to expend enormous labors every day upon mysterious things called “files,” “reports,” “minutes,” and “memoranda.”” The word enormous decieves the other animals into thinking the pigs are doing the absolute most for the farm and contributing more when that was absolutely not the case. For rewriting history, an example is when the commandments were removed from the wall, and only one remained. It was “all animals are equal.” changed to “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” This shows the corruption on the farm and how much the pigs controlled all aspects of the other animals lives.
