Crooks is seperated because he is a balck person and he did not realize why his father was upset with him playing with 'White Children'. But now he understands. Steinbeck Shows how you would be seperated if you were black through Crooks.

Sexism was still a big thing in the 20th Century. Men were still seen as dominant in the relationship. Steinbeck shows this very well through Curley's Wife as she has been mentioned in the book many times but has not even got a name. She also explains that she is 'contolled' by Curley as he is angry when she Allegedley was cheating on him but she was just trying to talk.

It is almost poetic how Steinbeck Opened and closed the Story. The story opens with the two main characters sitting on a beach and wondering where they're going to go next. The story closes on the same beach and one of them has to do something which I'm sure will make them not be able to live in peace because of his guilt. One of the Characters has to kill the other.
