- The orginial name was CI581 and it was used alternatively with another anesthetic phencyclidine (PCP).
However, it was first used in 1970 by the United States military, during the Vietnam War. Due to the harsh circumstances, they relied on the drug to ease their selves and mind. This was bad as it was highly addictive and many reported that they were interacting with dead people through hallucinations.
- It was not heavily abused until the 1980s.
