An "expert teacher" ...
1. Understands the motivational power of having a positive rapport with kids. He/she is relentless in trying to establish a positive relationship with EVERY student - even the ones who seem distant, broken, angry, and difficult.
2. Has a deep understanding of and passion for the content. Asks meaningful questions that inspire students to dig deeper - to even ask their own questions. This passion fuels student engagement.
3. Establishes relevance. Helps students answer the "Why does this matter?" question. High Releveance > High Student Engagement

1. Understand that all learning is based on relationships. A teacher must believe that all students can learn and that is it is his/her responsibiity to pursue a relationship as a foundation for learning.
