This song was composed by Paul Whiteman. it was used in the first party scene of the book. The song conveys a feeling of happiness and fun in the scene that it was used, because the scene is during a lively party at a very rich mans house. This is shown in the swing style of the song and how it mirrors the happy, fun atmosphere of the party. The song is composed in 3/4 time, which is generally used in songs that are meant to be danced to.

This song was composed and played by Josh Lawrence. It is a modern jazz song with a swing tune that matches the mood of Three O' Clock in the Morning perfectly in that it is upbeat and happy, and makes you want to dance. The song was on Josh Lawrence's album, "Contrast", which came out on March 2, 2018. The song has no lyrics, so there are no significant lyrics.

This song was written by Van and Schneck in the 1920's. The song is used in the book the first time that Daisy comes to Gatsby's house. I believe that the author wanted to convey the atmosphere of being at Gatsby's house because there are some lyrics that allude to how, "The rich get richer and the poor get children", and, "The rich get richer and the poor get laid off." This also alludes to the time period, which is during the Great Depression, where the poor were becoming poor and the rich were becoming richer.

Money

This song was written by Pink Floyd in January of 1973. It is all about how money is the stuff that makes the world go round, and I think that that matches the vibe of the scene perfectly. As Daisy walks up to Gatsby's house, this song plays, and is talking all about money and the power of it, which created the same mood at Ain't we got Fun for the scene. The song even has a saxophone solo in the middle, which fits perfectly with the type of music that was popular at the time, Jazz.

Beale Street Blues

This song was written by Chris Barber in 1917. It was used in the book as context to Gatsby's courtship of Daisy in 1917. The song is used to contrast the poor areas of Beale Street with the rich lifestyles of Gatsby and Daisy. The song is sad and is in the blues style to go along with this idea of being poor and seeing all the rich people dance by you without a second thought.

Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)

This song by Jay-Z is about growing up poor and in the ghetto, and how he came up from nothing to be rich. It matches the tone of Beale Street Blues in the sense that it is about being poor and seeing the rich people and wanting to be one of them. It also contrasts the ghetto with the life of the rich man, like this lyric says, "From standing on the corners boppin, to driving some of the hottest cars New York has ever seen." This contrasts being poor with being the richest man in New York.

Music is extremely important to the book, "The Great Gatsby." It helps to set the mood of certain scenes, and conveys how the author wants you to feel about certain events in the book. The music of the novel also helps to create more impact in certain scenes, such as the courtship of Gatsby and Daisy in 1917m and how the author used the blues for that scene.
