The book Ranger’s Apprentice by John Flanagan takes place in Araluen, a fictionalized version of medieval England. In the beginning, the author describes the landscapes around Castle Redmont. Built from stone that looks red in the sun, the castle is surrounded by a village, fields, and the woods where the main character eventually goes to live.

Will, an orphan, is the main character in the novel. Inquisitive, adventurous, and intelligent, Will get’s into mischief left and right. Among the other wards of the castle, Will’s easygoing nature leads him to many friends and allies. Horace is not one of his allies; initially. He despises Will’s wit and the two boys often clash over everything they encounter. This all changes later in the novel as the boys mature and see the value in each other’s characteristics.

At the beginning of the book, Will is an orphan living as a ward of Baron Alard. He is patiently but nervously awaiting the choosing day when he will be apprenticed to one of the masters of the castle. After a suspenseful night, Will is finally chosen to apprentice under one of the most celebrated masters in the fief. Tough mental and physical training follows but is interrupted by a dangerous man from his master’s past that will change the course of young Will’s life.

From the very beginning, the book hooks the reader into the story. I would highly recommend that students between the ages of 10-15 read this book. In addition, anybody interested in medieval times and the honor code that used to govern England would enjoy the story and the dynamic characters involved in the plot.

In the book, “Refugee,” by Alan Gratz, there are 3 main characters. Josef is a 12 year old Jewish boy living in Germany in 1939. Isabel is an 11 year old girl living in Cuba in 1994. Mahmoud is a 13 year old boy living in Syria in 2015. All three characters are living in places with destruction and riots left and right. As a result of that, Josef, Isabel, and Mahmoud escape to a different, safer place.

The book begins with Josef. His family and him are in their apartment when Nazis invade and take away his father. Josef’s father, Aaron Landau, gets sent to a concentration camp. That night was called the “Night of Broken Glass.” Then, Josef, his mother, and sister get reunited with Aaron, once he is released. Lastly, they make their way toward a new life in Cuba. Isabel has to deal with the president and prime minister of Cuba, Fidel Castro. Cuba’s citizens do not agree with Castro’s poor decisions, resulting in riots. No one is able to escape under Castro’s rules, so when he announces they are allowed to leave Cuba, Isabel, her family, and friends escape to el norte. Mahmoud is trying to stay invisible in his country. But one day, his family’s apartment complex collapses, being caused by riots from the civil war. Later, his father decides they are going to leave Syria for good. They decide they’ll go to Germany. Josef, Isabel, Mahmoud, and their families all face terrible dangers on their journeys, but with bravery and selflessness, you never know what will happen next.

“Refugee,” was a great book. I was really hooked, and sometimes it was hard to put down. The author decided to have three main characters. He would go back and forth between the characters, and share their different perspectives. I would have to go back and reread the last paragraph of a character’s chapter before starting a new one so I remembered everything. That was kind of annoying to me. The book overall was an easy read and easy to follow. Also, it had a lot of plot twists, but in some ways it was predictable. I thought the author ended the book really well. It was mostly a happy ending, which I always like. My favorite parts were when Isabel connected a Cuban song to her journey. This book made me understand refugees way more than I did, and the characters were really interesting and had unique qualities.

I would rate “Refugee,” 4 stars. I give it 4 stars because almost every chapter had something interesting happen. For example, when Mahmoud and his mother were drowning in the ocean, I was really hooked. Also, I liked how Mahmoud’s dad would crack jokes when they were struggling and tired. It’s always good to stay positive in hard times. I don’t give it a full 5 stars because a few chapters bored me quite a bit. Overall, I would for sure recommend this book.

1) The story takes place in Maine. Homer- A really nervous kid that has to find his brother who gets sold into the army, also a really good lier. Harold- Homer’s brother, he isn’t really a nervous person unlike his brother. Squint- Homer and Harold’s uncle that hates everything and everyone. Smelt- Finds Homer in the woods and is going to hurt him but realizes Homer can help. Homer faces a problem when he is out finding his brother. In the woods he runs into Smelt and he is going to hurt him because he doesn’t know who he is.

2) I really like this book, I really like that you could tell when there was I point when something good would happen. I like when Homer and his brother are hiding inside on the barn and the next thing you now his brother gets sold into the army for $250. Another thing I like was when Homer is running to get his brother and he runs into a slave catcher. I also like when Homer and another slave smacked the slave catcher and ran away.
March 1863

3) Haven’t gotten to the high point.
First, Homer’s uncle Squints in a very hateful person, he doesn’t like anything. So he sells Harold, Homer’s old brother, into the army for $250. Second Homer is then running away to find his brother. But, Homer runs into a little problem on the way to Harold, a man named Smelt who is a slave catcher. Smelt needs Homer to get some info on the slaves. Finally, will Harold be dead or Alive if or when Homer finds him.

3) I would give this book a ⅘ star because it was very interesting, but It didn’t have a lot of info on the real Civil War. I really liked the part when Homer runs into a slave catcher then has Homer do something for him. Then Homer and another slave hit the slave catcher with a steel pole and they ran.

My book is called Number the stars by Lois Lowery. It takes place in Denmark and is about the Jews. Some of the main characters include Annemarie, Ellen, mama, papa, and Kristi. They are all some of the main characters that show up in the book a lot. This book goes through a huge time period like a few months. The problem in this book is that the Germans are trying to capture the Jews. Annemarie is the most important character in the story. She has all the conflict mainly.

A little girl by the name of Annemarie and her friend Ellen have to find a way out of the war. With food shortages, soldiers stomping around it's kinda hard to do, they have to disguise themselves as sisters which is pretty easy… they say! But once it comes time what will happen?

I like this book overall because it puts you on the edge of your seat. This book was a little confusing considering that it kinda started weird at the beginning but towards the end it got more understandable. In my opinion it was a perfect reading level for me because it was kinda hard but also kinda easy to read. It was 100% believable, all the peoples perspectives made sense and just seemed like it was something that would happen. My favorite part was when the soldiers came into the little girls room and they had to pretend like sisters, then they broke the necklace. Overall I like this book a lot.

I would rate this book a 4.5/5 stars, I would rate a 5/5 but I’m not super into reading. Some of the parts that were interestingly cool were the beginning where they got stopped by a few soldiers. I relate to them being in that awkward situation because something like that has happened to me. Another part that I liked was when the uncle came over and gave them sea shells because that reminds me of when my family would come over and bring us things from where they live and I thought that was cool

It is March 1863 in the state of Maine and it’s mainly sunny outside. The main character is Homer P. Figg. He is worried about his brother and what will happen. He is very determined to find his brother before he gets to the war. Homer and Harold’s mother and father died when they were young so they had to live with their Uncle. The uncle made them live in a cold barn while he lived in a warm house. The mean Uncle Squinton Leach sold Homer’s older brother Harold into the war. Homer escaped late at night to find his brother Harold before he got to war.

On Homer's journey to find his brother Harold he came upon stink and smelt. They took his horse bob and used him to lie. He had lied to Mr. Brewster and Mrs. Bean to find out where Samuel reed was hiding the runaway slaves. Mr. Brewster eventually found out that he was being used and helped him get through stink and smelt. As a result he came back to the Brewster house with Samuel Reed at the end of the day and stink and smelt won’t bother him again.

I liked this book, it had many adventures and new beginnings that start. One thing that I didn’t like about this book is that you would have to remember the last adventure that happened to understand the next. In addition this book had a bit too many adventures, it started to get confusing and chaotic at the end. But I did like how the character developed a new personality by the end. In the beginning Homer was a nervous and worried kid. Then close to the end he started getting brave and courageous.

Overall I would rate this book at four out of five stars. It was pretty interesting and intriguing. It was really hard to put this book down even at the end of a chapter. I would recommend this book to students if they're looking for a book with many adventures. An example of what I liked about this book is when Homer talks about how he’s not going to give up on finding his brother. He is determined and has his mind set to finding him. It teaches good lessons of not giving up on your goal.

The War That Saved My Life, is a really good book that takes place in London 1939. Ada 10 years old, the main character, takes care of her brother Jamie until they both run away. Ada is determined, triomphant, and mentally strong. Ada lives with her mom and is not treated nicely and runs away when she here’s that a train is taking some kids away from a bombing in London.

Ada is a 10 year old living with her mom and is always doing everything for her brother Jamie in their one room apartment with her clubfoot, that gets in the way most of the time. Until one night she listened to Jamie telling mom that there’s a train that leaves early the next morning, to take a bunch of kids away from the bombing….

They get to the destination, and all the other kids find a home except for Ada and Jaime. The iron faced woman takes them to a lady named Miss Smith. She doesn't know what to do with them but soon comes to love making sure they are taken care of. She even tries to find Ada’s mom so she can give consent for Ada’s foot to be fixed.

The book the war that saved my life was good for a while, until the plot slowed down and nothing really interesting happened. Some of it was good. I loved Ada's character, and her determined spirit. When they escaped I liked how Ada saw a horse and wanted to ride it instantly. After that when they got adopted by Susan Smith, I liked the "even though she was not a nice person" description. But after that, things got uninteresting and things would tend to repeat.

I wouldn’t recommend this book only because it repeats a lot and the book gets along really slowly. I would give this book a 3 out of 5 stars just because of how much the book would repeat and how slowly things got along.

Elijah of buxton. In the book ELIJAH of BUXTON, Elijah is described as a fragile boy and scared of everything. He seems to be not stupid but not smart. He is good at “chunking rocks.” Then there is Cooter. Cooter is described as not super dumb but still dumb. He is described as just a regular kid. The main conflict is a man named Mr. Leroy acquired a large sum of money and is going to buy his family out of slavery. But the money gets stolen. Elijah has to find the money and his way home before it’s too late.

First, at the beginning of the book Elijah the main character, tells stories about his childhood and the lessons he learned. Then he goes to a carnival and sees a lady who can shoot a slingshot pretty good but Elijah is better at throwing rocks than she is at the slingshot. There was a little boy named ma-wee. He was oblivious to the fact that he was a slave. So the man Elijah went with rescued him. Thirdly new free former slaves come to the settlement and they join the community. Lastly Elijah, Mr. Leroy and the Preacher head off on a trip to save Mr. Leroy’s family.

I like the book but it was a little slow at the beginning and it kinda sucked. I thought it would be good for an 85 year old man with a lot of time on his hands. It is really really so low and I liked it but only at the end. It was kind of hard to understand because it was written how the stereotypical southern man talks. But it was good I just wouldn’t be reading this again.

I would rate this book ⅗ stars because it started so horribly slow then rushed it in the end. I give this book 1 star for the writing style, 1 star for the plot and 1 star for the character stories. It was a good book. I would recommend it to the elderly because they have the patience to read this. Otherwise I think the book was really bad. It was slow, and rushed in one book. They are the complete opposite of each other. How can you have both? That is all.

The main character in my book is Annemarie and her best friend named Ellen. The story is located in Denmark during the 1940s. The main conflict in the story is the Nazis are trying to take away the Jews. And the Nazis are trying everything to get their hands on the Jews.

Annemarie and her best friend are racing down a street when they get stopped by some Nazis they don’t think anything of it at the time. When they get back to the apartment that they live in they tell their parents what happened. Then the next day they saw 1 of their Jewish neighbors' store was closed. So Ellen’s parents have to leave town because they are Jewish and they leave Ellen with Annemarie and her family. Annemarie, her mom and her little sister sneak Ellen on to a train and go to their uncle's house. But when they get there after a couple days they learn that there has been a death.

I liked the book because it kept me on end because you don’t really know how they snuck the Rosens out of Denmark. Something I didn’t like was everything ended perfectly right at the end of the book. For me it was the perfect difficulty. It wasn't like I could just easily read through a page and it also wasn’t too hard so it didn’t need to stop a lot. The book was not very predictable so I needed to read it and pay good attention. My favorite part of the book is when Annemarie’s family are hiding Ellen and they act as sisters so the Nazis don’t find Ellen.

on a scale of 1 to 5 stars I would rate number the stars a 4.5 out of 5. I gave it this rating because the book was great but it was too short I was able to finish it very fast. Another reason I would recommend this book is it helped me to understand the historical era a lot better. My favorite part of the book is when Ellen and Annemarie have to act as sisters so the Nazis don’t take away Ellen, this part was my favorite because it was very suspenseful.

Dad and Dominic went over the border from east to west before they put up the wall. They were supposed to return days later but they were trapped on the west side by the wall that was built. At first there were many ways to get across the border but as they developed it, it became near impossible to cross without a pass.
2.In this story, the family is trying to reconnect with Their family. The main character in this book gerta has made some questionable decisions while trying to cross the Berlin east/west border. If you try to cross the border there is a high probability of getting shot by the stasi. The stasi are guards hired by the government to guard the wall to make sure no one gets through. In this story you will learn more about these characters and how they overcome these challenges
3.I like this book because of the character development. The author makes the story unpredictable and entertaining. I enjoyed the way that the author told this story using understandable and clear sentences easy for intermediate readers.
4.I rate this book ⅘ stars.

Elijah lives in Buxton, Canada with his family and this book takes place during 1850 what's when the war was happening. Elijah is the main character, but the other secondary characters are Mr. Fredrick Douglas, Flapjack the horse, etc. In this book Elijah goes through slavery and is very scared of the hoop snake. The hoop snake is a snake where it will bite you and then you will explode! Like literally explode. But you suffer for 14 whole days before dying. So death is very very crucial.

So this book kinda doesn’t get into the actual plot until page 220–240 and there are only 341 pages in this book. I never got past 210 because of doing other things after school and the only time I could read was at school. But in the 210 pages I read Elijah almost bit by a hoop snake and then he goes and picks berries and then gets kidnapped but someone and that is the only interesting thing before pg 210.

I mostly dislike this book because it takes a while to get into the plot and the font style and the way they wrote it, but I guess it was kinda easy to read. This was also really predictable so that’s also why I didn’t like it very much. I never made it to the ending. There was never a part I really liked but if I had to choose I would say when the horse flapjack got mad at a horse fly.

Out of 5 stars I would rate this a 2 out of 5 because I dislike this book more than I like it because the book is very boring for the first 240 pages and there are only 341 pages in the book. The writing font and style is ok I guess but overall I do not recommend it unless you have a lot of time to read it.

first the wall goes up dividing west and east Berlin along with the lowe family with no warning. With papa and Dominic on the other side it’s up to Greta to help her family escape, the stasi already has a file on Greta, Fritz, and papa, which makes escaping even harder and more deadly. It gives a lot of information of the Cold War and Berlin Wall, and how there was little food but somehow the children kept going to school and everything remained normal, well as normal as it can be with a wall dividing your town in half.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 star because it’s a really interesting and I liked that it was from a child’s perspective and I really liked how the author made a lot of things almost like a cliffhanger but the way that everything tied together!!

A night divided takes place in east Berlin in the 1960’s. In the book the main character Greta tries escaping to the west part of Berlin controlled by NATO. The problem that’s in Gerta’s way is the soviets put up a wall and guards to stop people from going west. The reason Greta wants to escape to the west is because her father and brother Dominic got separated from the rest of the family, also the west side of Berlin is being reconstructed well unlike the east side.
At the beginning Greta and her family debate on whether or not to move west and get away from the stasi (German secret police). Then Greta’s parents decide for the father and middle brother to go west to search for a job and new home west. Then a couple days later the Soviet’s put a wall and guards around east Berlin to prevent civilians from going west, splitting the family in two.
In my opinion this book is really interesting and I suggest reading it. The reason I like this book so much is because I like the time era and it’s cool seeing the perspective of someone trapped by the wall. For me this book had some difficult words but enough to make it interesting. My favorite part in the book was when she was trying to figure out what her father was saying through a dance because it shows how hard it was to escape the wall. Last I really like the authors writing because it shows how a 12 year old might act during a stressful situation like in the book.
I really recommend this book, it did have some up and downs but it was still a good book. The author made it so you kept reading because you want to know what’s next and I’d rate it a 4-5 star.

This book takes place in Buxton Canada. The main characters are Elijah, ma, pa, the preacher, and cooter. Elijah’s good at chucking rocks, fishing, and is scared of snakes. Ma is scared of toads. Pa is wise. The preacher is bad at fractions. And cooter is kinda dumb but is Elijah’s best friend.

At the beginning of the book the preacher rants about hoop snakes. Then Elijah scares ma with a toad. After that he gets payback when ma scared him with a snake inside a cookie jar. He also goes fishing with a mule gets mad at a horse fly. And finally school closes because something got in the settlement.

The book is ok but its too slow. My teammates are like 100 pages further than me and still nothing has happened I don’t think it deserved an award the only interesting thing that happened is when Elijah got mad at a horsefly and cursed at it.

Ada is a 10 year old girl who lives with her brother, Jamie, and her mother in London in 1939. Her mother is abusive and cruel to Ada because of her twisted foot. Ada believes that it’s her fault that she has a bad foot and is desperate to fix it. Ada is locked up in her flat so nobody sees her “ugly foot” as her mom calls it. Jamie is allowed to play and go outside. Jamie is caring for Ada and tells her and shows her some things from outside like fruits. Nonetheless, her mother still believes she should stay inside and hide herself from society.
When Jamie is shipped away from London to be protected from the war, Ada sneaks out with him. She feels exhilarated that she has left London, and her mother. When the children get there, nobody wants to take them in. They feel hopeless until they're taken to the house of a woman named Susan Smith. The children are hesitant to trust her. She cleans them up and feeds them. Ada finds Miss Smith has a horse and teaches herself to ride it. Jamie gets sent to school, and Ada teaches herself new skills. The children feel free under Susan’s care, but as winter rolls around, someone makes a surprise visit.

I enjoyed the book, I thought it was suspenseful, thrilling and heartfelt. It had some great moments showing how Jamie and Ada got closer with Susan. One thing I didn’t like was the fact most of the chapters didn’t talk about World War II. It got rather boring after a while. Closer to the end though, they touch more on the bombing, soldiers, and government. This book was moderately easy to read considering it’s written from Ada’s point of view and Ada doesn’t know much. I really liked the relationship between Ada and Susan because Susan is a very distant, sad woman because of the death of her sister, but when she gets to know Ada more, she opens up and they grow to appreciate each other. So overall, this book was good.

I would recommend this to other people, because not only does it have a sweet story, it also is educational. It shows how a child living in England might have to react and follow rules. Overall, I’d give it ⅘ stars. One star off because one may find it boring at times. In the middle of the book, I was expecting the climax but instead they gave an over-detailed explanation of Ada trying to teach Susan’s horse how to ride, and I thought those chapters could’ve been used on something different.

In the summer of 1939, Ada and her brother Jamie are under the hands of an abusive mother in London. They live in a small flat on the second story with a restaurant downstairs. Although Ada gets told she is worthless almost everyday, she still stays strong and takes care of her brother and the house. Her twisted weak foot keeps her trapped from doing things most people find common such as walking, going to school, or even going outside. However, nothing gets in her way and she escapes from her mother and all she has ever known. They then meet Ms.Smith, a single old lady who has little motivation after the pass of her sister. After that Ada’s life is changed forever while she experiences the war, and learns to ride a horse.

Trapped in an apartment, with a no good twisted foot. While her younger brother starts school and her abusive mom at work, Ada finally has time to learn how to walk. Day after day she struggles in pain slowly learning her balance when her brother comes home with news of the war. Later that night she makes a plan to escape with her brother in the morning. Early the next morning they make their way to the train station and away from London. When arrived she and her brother Jamie are placed into a home of a single woman who can barely get out of bed, Ms.Smith. While Ms.Smith grieves over her recently passed sister, Ada finds a horse in the yard which she puts her trust into and learns how to ride by herself.

Personally, I enjoyed the book and the way it showed what life was like during ww11. It went into depth of the different struggles, worries, and emotions that people had to go through. Although the book was great, it was very slow and had a lot of unnecessary details. The book was also slightly predictable and sometimes got boring. Even with all of its flaws I loved the author’s writing style and how they showed what Ada was thinking while everything was happening. Overall I enjoyed the book and thought it was good.

I rate this book a ⅗ because, it had some very unnecessary parts. For example when they all went shopping and saw quotes on the wall as motivation for the war. I didn’t find this important because it didn’t lead onto anything really important. In conclusion I would only recommend this book to people who love a long book

The book “A NIGHT DIVIDED” is set in east Berlin. They’re in a town with a big wall around it right after ww2. People find all ways to escape it like Greta, our main character! Greta’s father and mother decide to split ways, one leaves the town and one stays; her mom wants to stay with Fritz(the brother) and Greta. Her dad on the other hand leaves before it’s too late. Eventually they are out of materials and food. There are also guards everywhere. Now they are trying to find a way to escape even though there is a big wall with too many guards.

In East Berlin after WW2 the Cold War started. People start to decide if they should stay or leave before the sasti get to east Berlin and take over. Greta and her mom, with one of her siblings, decide to stay while her dad leaves. The day after the sasti decide they put a barbed wire fence up, putting people into a panic. People find all sorts of ways to escape, eventually the sasti had enough. They put up a big wall so people could not escape. Greta’s friend’s brother tries to escape, and he dies creating conflict between them, Fritz(Greta’s brother) was now trying to find a way to escape. One day they got a letter from their father and it was saying how he left something to let them “escape”. Greta grabbed a shovel and very sneakily was able to find the treasure but it wasn't what she was expecting…

I really enjoyed how the characters felt real and how they have really good interactions and conflict. The book was very straightforward and was easy to follow, but very rarely would I get stumped on where I am in the story. The book is very long so it was hard to get done in the amount of time we had. The book was almost too predictable and very slow, but good if you're looking for something long to read. The ending really gave me relief because of how long our protagonist Greta stayed in the wall for. My favorite part is when she finds stuff that her dad left behind intentionally and that gave her an idea to dig a hole and figure out all of the other problems that come with it.
I would rate this book a solid 4 out of 5 for my personal preference, the reason I gave this rating is because it was too long but everything else was good about it from the characters to the suspense, overall a great book and would recommend it if you like longer ones. Overall the book was suspenseful and the characters were quick thinkers. In the book they try digging a hole to escape and so they had to figure out how to work around getting home and being dirty from being in the hole. The start of the book is slow but it starts to pick up fast and it’s very fun to see what happens next, the only downside is that there is only one goal and it’s pretty straightforward and not too many obstacles in the way of them. Last thing, the book is long but has lots of good content and you won’t be disappointed, it’s a good book.

It was hard to read in some spots because of the the words that are used in the characters dialogue are “thy” “thee” or the end with “ith” e.x. “Why hasn’t-ith thy seen-ith my wagon over-ith yonder” and overall really repetitive old timey weird dialogue that’s is hard to read. But overall the author does a good job of introducing new characters and aspects of life in America during the American civil war. I belive that the author did a good job making it a book that can be enjoyed by simple minded middle schoolers about history. The book is not too predictable but is still something I could belive that might have happened in the war, even though a few parts are just a little far fetched. I liked the ending of the book they did a good job of giving all the happily ever after’s of the characters very quickly and efficiently.ΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞΞΨΩΨΞ

This story takes place in a town in Nazi Germany, during WWII. Near the start of this Great War. We follow Leisel, the infamous book thief. As she struggles to understand what is happening in the world around her, and struggles with her losses. Can she have the skills she needs in order to keep her and her foster family safe and even alive?

Join the book thief, as she steals her first book, meet the Hubermanns, learns to read, make friends, and lastly keeps a secret. The journey isn’t easy for our book thief. Can she keep her cool during a war? Not with Nazis and the Jews. But with herself. And finally will the book thief be caught as Leisel.

The book thief was a great book overall, sure it had its issues, it was often hard to follow, and the writing style was sure interesting. It is a medium hard reading difficulty in my opinion. One thing I loved about the book was that it was very unpredictable, you could never guess what was going to happen next, it constantly kept you on your toes. Character development is seen a lot throughout the book, that really helps us understand the characters deeply. And shows the historical era really well.

The book thief gets a 4 out of 5 from me. It was great but hard to follow at times. The topic, point of view, and time throughout the book changes abruptly and fairly often. That is my biggest reason why it doesn’t get a 5 out of 5. Other than that it is only minor errors and dislikes. I would recommend a bit more mature audience, so that is 7th grader on the bit more mature side and up would be a good age group for this book. Why? It deals with some heavy topics, and uses some moderately advanced language. And finally, it does show quite a bit of harsh scenes and a fair amount of violence.

This story, Number the Stars takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark in the time of world war 2. The Germans were invading and taking over many countries by force. A young girl named Annemarie’s best friend is a Jew. It is very dangerous for Annemarie’s family to help them. At the beginning of the book Annemarie, Ellen, and Kirsti got stopped by German soldiers in their neighborhood because they were simply running to have fun.
After Annemarie and Ellen got caught running past the German soldiers, they went back to their apartment. That night two German soldiers came to their apartment to check if Annemarie’s Jewish best friend was hiding with them. They simply told the soldiers that she was Annemarie’s dead sister. After that they took the train to uncle Henrick’s house. This was a meeting house for Jews. Annemarie’s mom took a group of Jews to the boats to Sweden where they would hide them and bring them over to Sweden. But her mom didn’t return when expected.
I liked this book up until the ending. The ending did not satisfy me because it felt like there should be something different, like something was missing. I loved learning about World War Two because something about it interests me. It was cool that Number The Stars was written from a young girl’s point of view because it was easier for me to put myself in her shoes. Though, it was a little too easy to read.
I would give this book 3 and ½ stars because I didn’t like that it was pretty predictable. It didn’t have any major plot twists, which to me, is what makes books and movies interesting. I would not recommend this book to others because it was not challenging or interesting enough. I would say don’t waste your time reading this when you could be reading something more interesting. There wasn’t anything specific that I didn’t like about the book. I just overall wouldn’t recommend it.

The time, World War 2. The place, Nazi, Germany's Himmel street. Liesel the main character is a curious person and she wants to learn how to read and write. She loves her papa and her papa teaches her to read and write. Also you don’t want to get her mad. One problem is a kid said she has to read in front of her class and she does something to that kid.

It is 1939 Germany and the Nazis have risen to power. Liesel’s brother just died and her mother is giving her to a foster family and leaving her. When her brother was getting buried she stole the grave digger’s handbook and it is the only thing she has left of her mother and brother. When she finally got to her foster parents house she would not get out of the car. Then when Liesel finally got out she never will see her mother again.

In my opinion I liked the book. I liked it because it was very interesting and it was believable. I think it was a bit hard to read also at first it was a bit confusing. My favorite part was when Liesel, the main character, got reunited with her dad. The ending was sad and I would not want it to happen to me. But overall it was pretty good and I would say it was hard but easy to read.

I would recommend The Book Thief to 7th grade and up because it is over 500 pages long(I would get the audiobook version too). After reading the book I would give it a 4 out of 5 stars because it was confusing at some parts like when Rosa liesel’s foster mom said “Still hungry saumensch?” It was a bit confusing of what that means but otherwise it was a good book and if you like historical fiction I would recommend it for you.

(Look at photos for paragraph 1-2 and some spoilers beyond on 3-4)

i personally thought the the book elephant run was pretty good, I have my problem though, let’s start with the good. For starters I thought the author writing was good, it was straight forward and have so well placed foreshadowing. Also the character hilltop was fun all around as you see his past and why he is even helping enyone. But there are some bad things that are noticeable, for starters nick and Maya’s crush felt a little forced. On the topic of character development nicks felt a little rushed for example in the mater of a page he when from hiding in fear of Japanese troops to being buddies with the one that found him. As well as the start was a little boring at first. And a little easy to read. But those are small complaints because, over all it was a fun book to read and nick relationship with his dad was fun to watch unfold.

4/5 stars

As I stated in my review I felt the character development was a little rushed at times like, on page 109 he blatantly lied to a Japanese soldier when a few pages befor he was to scared to try to help his friends from the same soldiers. But there was some parts I loved more like how nicks father broke out of the Japanese camps. Or when nick is able to hide away from the Japanese after munths of abuse. This is the reason I recommended it the highs far outweigh the lows and the lows are fun and far between.

This story is about a brother and sister, Greta and Fritz stuck in east Berlin. They‘re trying to escape through a tunnel there digging. They spend most their time in the tunnel being dug or their apartment they live in with their mom. Greta is very determined to leave to see her father and brother who are on the other side. Fritz has to join the east German military at the end of the month if he doesn’t get this tunnel done.

At this point in the story Fritz hit a pipe with the shovel while trying to dig. A police officer named Müller discovers the tunnel and is contemplating giving them to the police/killing them, or help them try and leave. Müller has a little kid and a wife who would live much better on the other side of the wall. The mother just got back from taking care of her mother I think and is wondering what her kids have been up to.

A night divide was a great book. It was easy to read and and amazing details. This book was a quick read even for people like me with a lower reading level. The book looks long but you read it in the blink of an eye. It had great plot twists and even better story line, with the perfect ending.

I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars I would recommend this book to middle school and up.

A Night Divided takes place in East Berlin surrounded by a wall that keeps the citizens from escaping. West Berlin however is a free land where most people in East Berlin wish they were. The main characters in this book are gerta (the main character/sister), fritz (the brother of gerta who is involved with gerta in attempting to escape), mama (currently gone away taking care of her sick mother), Aldous (the father who escaped and left mama gerta and fritz behind), and Dominic (also escaped with Aldous and brother of fritz and gerta). Gerta and Fritz, the main characters, are currently digging a tunnel to escape but have been caught by müller, who is a stasi officer, and they are currently at gunpoint and do not know what is going to happen to them. In the tunnel, gerta and fritz are currently in the death strip which if they dig up too early could get them shot like Peter.

So far at the start of the book, the family was all together Aldous and Dominic were still at home and mama wasn’t taking care of her mother yet. Aldous and Dominic were planning their escape but didn’t involve anyone in the family. They had escaped and no one had seen them until Greta saw Dominic at the gate walking to school and then got caught waving to Dominic by a stasi officer named müller. Gertrude then heard that Anna’s brother got shot in the back for attempting to escape and Greta was blamed for not telling Anna’s family about what Peter had said. Fritz tried to escape but got caught and was interrogated by the stasi and also found out that their house was bugged with microphones and the whole family had to act as normal as possible to not raise suspicion. Greta saw her father giving her a clue from a platform to try and escape through an air raid shelter but Greta didn’t get it at first but when she did, she and her brother Fritz started a tunnel through that shelter. Fritz hit a water pipe when digging the tunnel and water is spraying all over the tunnel area and breaking it down, it could collapse right on them.

A Night Divided was probably the best book I’ve ever read, it was an amazing mix of emotion, suspense, and a little dab of violence with the guards. I honestly had no dislikes of this book because of the way the author, Jennifer A. Nielsen, wrote the book in her amazing and special style of writing to keep the readers on their toes. The main character of A Night Divided, Gerta Lowe, was my favorite character because of the way that she changed from a nervous young woman to a person that wanted to escape and didn’t care what the consequences were. My other favorite character was Müller who was a stasi officer that at first wanted to bust Gerta and her brother for doing something wrong but changed when he did catch them and Gerta and her brother Fritz changed his mind so they wouldn’t get caught by him at least. And I loved the ending where Gerta, Fritz, and their mother escaped all together through the tunnel along with Ana as well.

I do recommend this book for middle to high schoolers that are interested in historical fiction. Because it shows what happened back in the 1960’s, for example the wall going up and the surroundings for everyone and the amount of violence throughout the place that East Berlin is. The amount of history that is contained in that book is extraordinary and amazing. I definitely rate A Night Divided a 5 out of 5 stars, but I do have one question, is the garden next to the abandoned house still there. The character I hated the most was Frau Eberhart because of the amount of spying and tattletale in that woman. But other than that I honestly loved the book and like I said I would definitely recommend the book.

it was 1961 in east Berlin where the wall just went up or how other people would call it “the iron curtain” people were not allowed in or out. Actually nothing was allowed in or out. People would have to sneak out or escape, but the wall had barbed wire that would shred not just your clothes, and just beyond the wall was the death strip, the grenzers were the wall officers where they were armed with guns and they will shoot if needed. Along with the satsi too they would shoot anyone or put anyone in prison at the smallest chance they get. Gerta is the main character, a couple days before the wall went up her family was separated, they have been for 4 years now. It’s just gerta, her mom and fitz in east Berlin but her dad and Dominic are stuck on the other side.

Greta’s school taught her how to think, what to do, and how to act, there was no uniqueness or a sense of self in anything. Everyone was taught to obey and to do as the satsi say and not any different. If you are brave enough to look over the wall, and talk about it or even just thinking about it you will have a gun put to ur head and your life will be threatened for just being curious. They will bug and invade your house, they will kill your family, they are roof less! As a result some people are thinking it’s going to start another war.

I absolutely loved this book it was historical but also left room for creativeness and originality, it had plenty of cliffhangers and plot twists. It had a bunch of mystery’s and intensity in the story line. I would highly suggest this book for all ages. If you like mysteries. 10/10 would highly recommend.

I would highly recommend this book for students, especially for an essay on historical fiction because it is easy to capture the main topic. I would give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. It was a mysterious and cliffhanger book and left lots of mysteries to solve. “What did pap mean from the digging?” “Am I just trying to dig out a mystery that’s not even there?” Greta said after papa showed her “the dance”.

The setting of the book, A Night Divided, takes place in Berlin, Germany 1961 after World War 2. The time period of this book is known as the 1960’s Berlin, Germany Cold War. The main character’s name is Gerta, and she is a 12-year-old German girl that is hopeful to escape captivity in Germany. Gerta’s character traits reflect that she is hopeful, stubborn, secretive, empathetic, scared, concerned, and determined. Gerta’s main conflict that she faces in A Night Divided, is she lives with her mom and sibling Fritz in East Berlin but are separated from her Dad, Aldous, and her other sibling, Dominic, by the Berlin Wall who are in West Berlin. The Soviet Union is who is behind the Berlin Wall, because they are the ones who regulate the government and what they are allowed to do to people who live on the East side of the Berlin Wall.

First, the government decided to put up the Berlin Wall to keep as much population of people as they can before they tried to leave, separating Gerta, Fritz and her mom from Gerta’s father, and her sibling, Dominic. Second, the secret police force came to interrogate Gerta, her mother in East Berlin. Third, Gerta saw her brother, Dominic, and her father Aldous on a platform over the Berlin Wall in West Berlin, Aldous did a dance for Gerta that she knew about. Fourth, Gerta heard that someone was gonna attempt an escape. Lastly, Gerta and Fritz plan an escape.

I liked this book because the author gave the reader the perspective of a young rebellious girl that lived in the Cold War, and all the things that she had to endure with her personality, and what she thought was right and wrong. I liked how as the story progressed the author added obstacles evenly throughout the book that the protagonist and supporting characters had to overcome. I liked the author’s writing style, like how she put quotes and sayings from different people that fits with the text. It was hard to know what was coming next, and it is definitely a believable story. The setup that the book had with the writing was also good too, because there was just the right amount of words on the pages, and the book wasn’t too short or too lengthy. And just like Gerta experienced in the story, it would not be fun to lose one of your best friends.

I would recommend this book to other students because the book is really well written, and I cheered for Gerta all the way throughout the book. I would rate this book a 5 out of 5, and a 10 out of 10. I like that the author chose to write the book from Gerta's perspective because it showed how people who are passionate about what's right and wrong, and who just want to not be noticed, act in the situation of the Cold War. One of the quotes from the book that I liked was a quote that Jennifer the author used was from Martin Luther: “Everything that is done in the world is done by hope”. I liked that close to the end of the story, it wasn’t just: ‘it all ended happily ever after’, Gerta was in danger one last time before she was ok. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did!

My book is called “ A Night Divided” and it is by Jennifer A. Nielsen. Sunday, August 13, 1961, Berlin, Germany’s capital city. A barbed wire fence had been built around east berlin as its people slept. Stations of Grenzers, border police, Grenztruppen, people who stood guard along a fence of thorny wire, and the stasi [ STAA-ZEE ], the soviet union’s secret police force sent in to watch over the people of east Berlin. As our main character, Gerta, wakes up on this gloomy Sunday morning, she hears mama crying for papa “Aldous!” Papa and Dominic were stuck on the other side. Gerta went to embrace mama but knew nothing could make her feel better now. The stasi knew about Gerta’s father, Aldous Lowe, and they were determined to convict him and everyone he cared about for espionage during world war 2. Gerta knew her father had done nothing wrong and was so confused as to why they needed intel on her father, after all he was in the west with Dominic. Four years later the wall is still up and on Gerta’s way to school she sees a farmillar face on a platform waving to her telling her something.

Courage. Strength. Persistence. Power. This is Gerta, no matter how much she is let down and told to give up she knows that what her and fritz are doing is important. Even Müller knows that time is their biggest enemy and that to be successful they need to work quickly or all their lives will be in jeopardy. Digging to freedom is risky and if they are not careful they could die, but they know it will all be worth it in the end, seeing papa and Dominic’s faces, that will make it all worth it. Will mama change her mind? Did papa actually want them to dig? No one can be trusted. The Berlin Wall trapped many, will Gerta and her family be some of those people? Find out the answer to all your questions in the book of a life time “A Night Divided”.

This book was great, and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in historical fiction. The author, Jennifer Nielsen, has an interesting writing style that is truly fantastic. She makes it feel like you are inside of the book and you go through all the same struggles as the main character Gerta and her brother Fritz. The only thing that I dislike about this book was how many realistic deaths there were, by the middle of this book you are emotionally invested in the characters and to see them not live till the end is truly devastating.

The War that Saved my Life is a book that is based in Kent, a town in the U.K. during WWII. The book follows a girl named Ada and her younger brother Jamie. Ada was born with a clubfoot and her mother (Mam) ridicules her for it. Air raids are predicted to occur in London, therefore, all children are forced to evacuate and live with a different guardian. Ada and Jamie must get used to living with a new person, Mrs. Smith.
Mrs. Smith does not want children, but has to live with and take care of the new evacuees. Ada and Jamie eventually begin to form a bond with Mrs. Smith. Ada is taken to the doctor’s office to look at the clubfoot, first Ada gets crutches. The doctor suggests that Ada should get an operation done on her clubfoot, but she must get permission from Mam. Both Mrs. Smith and Ada send letters to Mam continuously, but with no response. Hitler and the Nazi Regime continue to invade more land, getting closer, and closer to Britain. Despite things getting more risky in London, children are getting sent back to their parents, but not Ada and Jamie.
This book was absolutely riveting. Normally, I wouldn’t read a historical fiction book, however, I struggled to put this one down. I’ll pick this book up and just be glued to it- I’ll think I’ve only read a few pages but when I look down, I see I’ve read almost 50. The War that Saved my Life has an amazing plot and excellent descriptions, almost as if you can feel the characters as they speak. The book ends in a bittersweet reunion that ties the whole thing together. I think my favorite part of the book was when the fighter pilot played with Jamie on Christmas. There was also a point within the story where the author talks about Ada’s encounter with the soldiers. This scene made me very emotional with the vivid writing presented throughout the chapter.
I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in WWII or history. The War that Saved my Life is both heartwarming and keeps you engaged the whole way. For this reason, I would rate this book 4.5 stars. When I say that this book makes you feel very connected to the characters, I mean I just want to scream at Mam and hug the rest of the characters. One of my favorite quotes from this book is: “Somehow Christmas was making me feel jumpy inside. All this talk about being together and being happy and celebrating—it felt threatening. Like I shouldn’t be a part of it. Like I wasn’t allowed. And Susan wanted me to be happy, which was scarier still.” (Pg. 206)

Paragraph 1
The book bat 6 takes place in 1948 Oregon, USA right after World War Two. Some of the charter’s Shazam, Aki, Tootie, and lorelei. Shazam is a lost charter but a very talented softball player, she is lost because her dad died in the Pearl Harbor attack and she blames every single Japanese person she sees. Aki is a Japanese girl that is a very hard worker that recently came back from a Japanese concentration camp made by the USA. Tootie is a kind-hearted teammate that helps you even with the littlest things. Lorelei is a softball player that has a hard time getting along with people cause her dad didn’t fight in the war which is looked down upon by other people.
Paragraph 2
First, you are introduced to all the characters. Next, they introduce the schools of each softball team which are Barlow and bear creak. After that, you are shown what life at home is like for each one of the charters and how they spend their time with friends for family. Last is the bat 6 Softball game between each of the middle school's 6th-grade softball teams.
Paragraph 3
The book Bat 6 is a very interesting take on what life was like after ww2. The type writing style the author used was that she switches between each character's perspective and that made the book difficult to see who the main characters were. The book teaches you about the historical era by showing you life at home for many of the characters. One of the characters Aki tells you about how she was sent to a Japanese camp after Pearl Harbor, and another character Shazam tells you her life without her father that lost his life in the Pearl Harbor attack. I liked that when you were reading you could tell what character you switched to because the author changes the way they speak for each different character so that made the book fun. I didn’t like that if a character you liked was talking the author could change the characters and you would have to wait until the next chapter.
Paragraph 4
I would recommend this book if you like sports or learn about the home life of characters and different perspectives of each of them. I would rate this book a 4 out of 5 for its fun story telling but difficult writing style.

Paragraph 1
In A Night Divided the story takes place in west and east Berlin usually between morning and night. The main characters are Gerta, and Fritz gertas older brother, some minor characters are the mom, dominic, the stasi, and Anna. The qualities of Gerta is that she is very stubborn and she is very brave, and also very loyal and a very good liar. The problem that gerta faces and has to overcome is that she has to keep a very big secret of digging a hole to escape West Berlin, another problem that she and fritz have to overcome is not having their mom at home which means that they can have a lot of money, and they can only have a little amount of food with the help of their dad and fritz.

Paragraph 2

During the high point of the story the hole that Fritz and Gerta are digging gets discovered by müller because someone tells him that they are making a garden but they have questions and muller checks out the “garden” and sees the safehouse that they digged the hole in.

Paragraph 3

In my opinion a night divided is a very good book because the way that the author built up suspense throughout the story was just plain incredible. It was not too hard or too easy, it was perfect. My favorite part of the book was when Gerta and her dad meet up in the tunnel and then escape West Berlin. It was really thrilling. Another reason why this book was really good was because it was really believable and it made me believe that these events were real (which they were).

Paragraph 4

I would recommend this book to students because for me I rate this book a 5 star book. The reason I rate this book a five star is because the way the author wrote this book is very good. My favorite part of the book is when Gerta and Fritz are digging like they always do but this time with their mom and they hear other people from the east digging right next to them and they thought that it was stasi trying to find them, so they sleep and in the morning they wake up and then they listen again and the digging was still going this time it was so close they thought they could hear the breathing and then Theo dad sticks a stick through a hole and then they run off and escape to the east.

In London, beginning in WWII, Ada a 10 year old girl is stuck with a horrid mother (Mam), with all due respect should die alone, Ada is also with her brother Jamie. Ada dreams sweet dreams of being able to walk normal, to walk outside in the sun. Though Ada’s mum is an abusive piece of “work” who is too ashamed to let her own child go outside and be seen because of her “ ugly foot “. Ada soon learns that her mum plans on sending her brother Jamie away to escape the bombs that Hitler is gonna drop, only Jamie, Ada needs to escape the flat & war but getting the strength to defy an abuser and learn self worth is a task at hand.

Ada for the first time ever goes outside, after so much work on walking in the flat, she is doing it, running away with Jamie to his school to leave London they find themselves left unwanted again by the villagers, filthy her and Jamie sit in a woman’s car to meet ms.smith/Susan, Ada hears ms.smith “ I don’t want them “ but Ada wants the pony in the back so too bad. It kept it settle in the historical references and changes in the Characters. The trauma that Ada was subjected to showed and because of it you are able to tell when she was getting better. The scenes where well written, you really can see the beautiful scenes. The author did a good job at making people care about the characters. In all the book was great, the story was sweet and Cold, and of anyone asks about the book they should read not only to learn about history but to learn about trauma and problems that come with it.

people should read “ the war that saved my life “ and here’s why, they is able to keep your attention, the book is a good why to learn about what is was like as a kid in WWII, to any young author trying to write the affects of trauma this book is a good place to look .
- emberlee s.

Paragraph One
In the book titled Refugee by Alan Gratz, there isn’t one main character, there are three. The book takes a look at three different conflicts for our main characters Josef, Isabella, and Mahmoud. Josef starts out in Berlin Germany in 1938 when the Nazis attacks Jews. Josef and his family had to flee their home in search of a new place to stay and escape the Nazis. Josef had to be mentally strong, all of them did because of how the Nazis and Hitler treated them. He was courageous and strong, kind and brave and passionate to leave. Isabella was in the outskirts of Havana Cuba, 1994 where their time was the Soviet Union and the food shortage in Cuba when the Union fell. Isabella had to be extremely brave and strong to go through with leaving their home forever on a leaky boat. Even in these hardships, Isabella was extremely kind to others and fought for what she thought was right. Mahmoud’s period was during a Syrian civil war in Aleppo Syria, 2015. He was quiet, caring and strong even through these tough times. They all had to flee home and hope that some country would take in refugees like them and the things they have faced.

Paragraph Two
Josef’s part of the story started with the Nazis destroying his home and treating his Jewish family like trash and then them leaving their home and feeling onto a refugee boat trying to get them into Cuba. On the boat, Josef’s father was traumatized by the Nazis claiming ‘These are just traps!’ For everything. This lead to Josef’s father jumping off the boat resulting with his father in Cuba in a hospital, leaving the family in a despaired state. The boat, the St. Louis, tried getting them into multiple countries but none would take them causing the grief and hopelessness of many passengers.
Isabella’s part of the story started with her friend Iván, building a boat with his father to try and escape Cuba. Castro, the president of Cuba decided that people who flee now won’t suffer the consequences of fleeing (being thrown in jail) so Isabella’s family along with Iván’s family escaped onto a boat. Unfortunately, they came across many dangers like the engine failing, sharks attacking and the boat leaking from the damage. Many of their loved ones died as they sailed towards their ideal destination, Miami Florida of the U.S.A.
Mahmoud’s part of the story started with the Syrian war and his home being destroyed which resulted in his family trying to leave to go to Germany. They had to travel hundreds of miles even to just reach Europe. The countries they visited weren’t all that accepting ot the fact that Syrian refugees had been staying and some even tried to kill them. Mahmoud and his family tried to take a boat across the Mediterranean Sea but end up being stuck in the ocean until a life jacket stumbled upon them on a dead body. They soon got help and continued their journey but the Hungarian people arrested the Syrian refugees and put them in prison.

Paragraph Three
The book Refugee is an amazing book maybe even one of my favorites. Having three main characters and switching sections between them could be difficult and different but it was honestly a lot of fun. I enjoyed Refugee because of the creative perspectives of the characters and also how much these events could cause disaster in their lives, it makes it so that you want to keep reading and see what is next. I would say the only downfall to the book is the change of perspective because of how confusing it could be to new readers and the amount of time they spend in the sea not to mention the occasional dry parts of the book. Refugee had a great amount of suspense and it didn’t make it to predicable with the plot and destinations. The ending honestly shocked me and I still love to read the last perspective of Mahmoud because of how the book ended because it connected all those perspectives. My favorite part was the ending because of how the perspectives came together and the surprise at the end which will definitely leave you shocked. The author’s style of writing was one to like and I would definitely ready more of their work. Refugee turned out to be one of my favorite books and I would read it again for sure.

Paragraph Four
From a scale to 1-5 stars, I would rate refugee 4 1/2 stars out of five. I didn’t really much care for how much time each character spent in the ocean but I liked how the author still made it interesting with the lack of setting in those areas. A lot of the credit for the stars go to the ending of Refugee for its amazing end and how surprising it was. I found this book very interesting and I would definitely recommend it to somebody.

The way Virginia Euwer Wolff wrote the book was just interesting enough to keep you in the book but not overloaded with information. But on the other side the book was told in a lot of different perspectives and sometimes it was hard to know what what was really happening or was just an opinion of one of the characters.

Paragraph 1:
My book is bat 6 and the setting takes place in oregon usa. The 2 schools that the book takes place at are Bear Creek Ridge grade school and Barlow road grade school. Some of the characters in bat 6 are shazam, wink, lla mae, they are on the same softball team. Some other characters are shadean, aki, and tootie they are also on the same softball team. The conflict in this book is shazam on the barlow road team calling everyone that is japanese a 🤬 and in that time period that was not a very nice thing to say, because that was after the bombing of pearl harbor. Also some people might ask why the book is called bat 6 and that is the softball game that is played between both schools.

Paragraph 2:
The story of Bat 6 is during the time period after WW2 and there are two grade schools that are training and acquiring new players to play a game called Bat 6. But before that happens there are many things that happen in the book before that. For example Aki and her family are Japanese and during WW2 they were escorted away to be in these camps to wait until the war was over. Also something that happened during that time was a new girl came to barlow her name was shazam she was one of the best players on the team, unfortunately during the bombing of pearl harbor her dad named buzz was killed he was serving on the boat named “arizona” so she was living with her grandma at the time because her mom could not get off her feet.

Paragraph 3:
My opinion on the book bat 6 is that it was good but also bad because some parts of the book were very thrilling but then in others it was boring and I didn't want to read. The book was in between hard and easy. It was just right for me. The book was very unpredictable. That was something I really liked about the book. I liked the ending of the book because it taught somebody a lesson, but it also resulted in someone getting hurt so that was something I didn't like about the ending. Some connections the book made back to my life was the setting was located in Oregon and that is where i live so that is a connection that i made. I had mixed feelings about the author's writing style. It was really cool because you got everybody’s perspective but it was also confusing sometimes to tell who was talking.

Paragraph 4:
I would give bat 6 a 3.5 out of 5 in some parts of the book I felt like I couldn't stop reading but also in others I didn't want to read the book at all. For example during the bat 6 game I didn't want to stop reading, but at the start of the book it was slow and it wasn’t very interesting. All in all I would recommend this to someone who would like to find a new book.

Paragraph one
The story in The Outsiders centers on two gangs the rich Socs and the Greasers. The story is narrated from the point of view of Ponyboy Curtis, a 14-year-old greaser, who’s parents recently passed away in a accident. Pony boy has two brothers, Darry and Sodapop. The events in The Outsiders escalate, starting with two greasers befriending two Soc girls, followed by a fight in which a Soc boy is killed by a greaser, leading up to the final “rumble” between the two groups. Despite the violence, the characters grow, learning to see individuals beyond the social group they belong to.

Paragraph two
The book starts with Ponyboy walking home from a movie alone. He is stopped by a group of Soca who proceed to beat him up and threaten him. Later that night him and Johnny go see a movie and stop for a quick rest and end up falling asleep. Ponyboy wakes up and it is way past his curfew. He gets home and Darry is furious with Pony and they get into a fight. Pony leaves to cool off but before he could go back to his house something happens and he is forced to run away with Johnny. The story continues to escalate from there.

Paragraph three
S.E Hinton did a great job writing this novel. I really like her style of writing because not only does she put great words, and make the characters have a background. She makes it feel like you are in the character's shoes. So in this book I really felt like ponyboy

the story of bat 6 usually takes place at bear creek or Barlow grade school. One of the main characters is Shazam because she is talked about a lot and is a little different. The conflict in the story is this big game that both teams play against each other in. middle school girls from rival schools train all year for one moment. Along the way both teams get new players and explain theirs and others lifestyle. As they learn more about each other they get closer together and become friends when the time comes the two teams will have to face each other in a game that means everything to them. I liked my book because I play baseball and the authors writing style was really interesting. It made the book a little confusing and it was hard to read. I wasn’t predictdictable and I didn’t like the ending ar all. One of my favorite parts was when the game was about to start and they were getting everything ready for the game. It was my favorite part because everybody was so friendly and calm. They all were working together and even though everybody didn’t want the same team to win it didn’t matter right then. All the players were concentrated but still a little nervouse. give it a 3.5 star rating because it takes so much time of buildup to I would recommend this book to anyone who likes sports. I wouldthe game. Also the ending isn’t optimal. Finally the author has a really good writing style and the bat 6 game is really entertaining to read.

PARAGRAPH 1
Ada is a smart quick learning girl but she’s hurt inside. Her little brother Jamie helps her escape the bombing in London. They escape on a train with Jamie’s school group, when they arrive they go to a hall where they line up for people to take them into their homes as evacuees. To take care of them. They get taken somewhere for a nice lady named Miss Susan Smith to take care of them until further notice. Ada doesn’t like Miss Smith at first but she warms up to her.

PARAGRAPH 2
Ada finds a horse named butter she teaches herself to ride a horse another thing she wasn’t allowed to do back at home. She finds a girl who becomes her friend but isn’t sure if it’s official. But if you save someone from having brain damage then I think it’s considered friendship. Her friend moves to boarding school until Christmas, she writes letters but Ada doesn’t reply. Also Ada gets to learn how to sew, write, and take care of butter properly, she makes new friends and is happy at Susan’s house. But she’s still afraid that mam will come for her.

PARAGRAPH 3
I like this book because it really makes you put yourself in this time period and experience what the character is. This book was very believable because of the way the author had the main character tell it, and experienced it. The ending was good but it left you kind of on a clif hanger, that is one thing I wish they would change.

PHARAGRAPH 4
I rate this book 5/5 stars it was good and it kept you in it wanting you to read the next page. This would be a good book to get a perspective on what the war was like for some people. I say this because the character tells the story as if is was something that really happened to this real person, but yet it is only historical fiction.

In the book Refugee there is 3 main characters. Mahmoud was born in Aleppo, Syria, his story takes place at the time 2015. Josef was born in Berlin, Germany and his story takes place at the time of 1938 (Nazis and Hitler time). The last main character is Isabel, she is from Havana, Cuba in the year 1994. Mahmoud alway was invisible in Aleppo because that was the only way he wouldn’t get bullied or harassed. He cares a lot about his family but is afraid of losing his own life. Josef is timid, kind, and very loving towards his family. He had to be the father in his family because his father had experienced trauma from a camp he was sent to by the Nazis. Isabel is extremely genuine and is passionate about music. These 3 characters have a few things in common. 1. They are all refugees trying to escape their homeland for a better life. 2. They are all traveling across the ocean to get to different places. Josef is escaping to Cuba, Mahmoud is escaping to Greece, and Isabel is escaping to Florida (US). They all face many fatal challenges personally and just in general. One of the main things that is the hardest for these characters is protecting their family and keeping them together.

Since there are 3 main characters I am just going to talk about my favorite character, which is Mahmoud. Mahmoud grew up in Aleppo, Syria but after facing many catastrophic problems, himself, his mother, father, brother Waleed, and little sister Hana decide to escape their country and find a new and safer life. Also they experience lots of hunger and traumatic moments but this isn’t going to stop them from achieving their goal. After that, they get stuck in a place not able to get out. Finally, when they manage to get on the ocean they lose their family and get really close to giving up on EVERYTHING they have worked on. Will they make it to Germany?

I really enjoyed this book because seeing all these people that experienced so many hardships made me grateful to live in a free country and have a healthy life and a family. This author really highlighted the personalities of these characters and explained their feelings but in a 3rd person view. While reading this book I learned a lot about historical eras that I didn’t know before. The one thing that I didn’t like about the writing was how fast some parts went where it skipped months at a time. My favorite part was when Ivan (Isabel’s story) was in the water beside the boat, he got bitten by a shark and died from loss of blood. This was my favorite part because it brought out a lot of emotions in the characters and I liked the suspense of the event. Overall, the book was really enjoyable and educational.

I’m going to give this book a ⅘ star rating because it was really entertaining and fun to read. I loved how the Author was really descriptive of the emotions of the characters, it really helped the book come together. I also really liked the characters and their stories, the historical era affects how the characters feel and their personalities as well. The best part was when Mahmoud lost his family in the ocean and they lost Hana. Mahmoud had said, “At least take my sister! She’s a baby. She won’t take up any room!” This was the best part because it was suspenseful and emotional.

During World War 2 the Americans took the Native Americans in order to put them in the Marines so they could become code talkers. The main character is Ned Begay. He is one of the few Navajos who is a code talker. He is curious, brave, smart, and hardworking. He wasn’t forced into joining the marines, he wanted to because he wants to fight for his country. Ned is facing the fact that he wants to fight in the marines but he has to lie about his age to be recruited. Once recruited he and the other Navajos are separated so they can be trained to be a code talker using their native language.

First it starts out with Ned having to go to boarding school and being taught how to be “white”. They were very cruel to the Navajo kids at the boarding school. For example if a teacher heard them speaking their native language they would have to be forced to eat soap. Ned told himself that when he was old enough he would change the school system and make it fair for all kids, not just Navajos. Second Ned goes to high school and finds that if he does well in school and is careful about who he is talking Navajo around he will be on good terms with the teachers. He had a lot more freedom in high school than he had in boarding school. He wanted to enlist in the marines but his parents told him to wait another. After a year passed his parents decided that he could enlist. Lastly after being accepted into the marines he and a few other Navajos start to learn how to become code talkers and prepare for the war.

In my opinion I liked the book because it was interesting to read about that time period and what it was like back then. But I also didn’t like it mainly because it wasn’t the type of book I would read on my own. The book was easy to read but also a little hard because it had the Navajo language in it and that was a little confusing. I think it was believable because this could happen even though the characters were fake. This could have actually been someone’s story from when they were in WW2. I did like the ending because Ned got to go home and help change the world for Navajos and all people slowly but surely. I really liked the authors writing style because it was Ned ( the main character) telling his grandchildren about his time serving in the marines as a code talker. I liked how the author would then go back to the present day when Ned was telling the story to his grandchildren and make sure they understood.

I would recommend Code Talker to another student depending on if they were doing an assignment on Code Talkers or WW2. I would give this book 4 stars because of the training, hard work, and determination the marines had and went through. For example when they had to walk across a desert on foot in two days and only had one can of water each. They almost died because of dehydration but the Navajos knew something the other marines didn’t and could have kept going but they had already sent for someone to come and get them. Overall I really liked the book because it was interesting to learn about WW2 and code talkers and the things they had to go through but it is still not the type of book I would read on my own.
