         <description><![CDATA[<div>motivation: need/desire that directs behavior&nbsp;<br>Incentive Theory: positive/negative environmental stimuli that motivate behavior<br>Physiological vs Psychological:<br>-hunger drives us to eat<br>-fatigue drives us to rest<br>Drive Reduction Theory: physical needs creates a drive to satisfy the need&nbsp;<br>-are problem centered&nbsp;<br>-take responsibility and work hard&nbsp;<br>-avoid pretense<br>Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: pyramid of human needs, each need must be met successfully to move up; end with self actualization<br>Hunger Drive/Weight Disorders: both internal and external reasons for hunger (Anorexia, Bulimia, Obesity)&nbsp;<br>Thirst Drive: Reduction of fluid in and outside of cell caused by sodium&nbsp;<br>-reasons of habitual, cultural and psychogenetic&nbsp;<br>Lateral Thalamus tells you you are hungry&nbsp;<br>Ventrimedial Thalamus tells you you are full&nbsp;<br>Sexual Response Cycle: four stages of sexual responding: excitement, plateau, orgasm, resolution&nbsp;<br>Psych of Sex: men and women respond to same stimuli<br>Sexual Disorders: problems that consistently impair sexual functioning<br>Sexual Orientation: sexual attraction to members of particular gender&nbsp;<br>Need to Belong: Harlow; we need people, we have a need for acceptance, we will change our actions to fit in with certain groups<br>Achievement Motivation: desire for significant accomplishment&nbsp;<br>-extrinsic: desire to perform a behavior for reward or to avoid punishment&nbsp;<br>-intrinsic: desire to perform a behavior for your own sake&nbsp;<br>LEADERSHIP STYLE<br>Task vs Social<br>-task: focuses on foals, set standards (dictator)<br>-social: mediates conflict, builds teamwork (democratic)<br>Theory X vs Theory Y&nbsp;<br>-X-constant monitoring of workers, hovers&nbsp;<br>-Y-constant intrinsic motivation, share control<br>Industrial Organizational Psych<br>-Studies how managers can best enhance the workplace </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>conflict motivation: doubt in yourself conflicted about what choice to make&nbsp;<br>-Approach Approach Conflict: occurs when you must choose between two desirable outcomes&nbsp;<br>-Avoidance Avoidance Conflict: occurs when you must choose between two unattractive outcomes<br>-Approach Avoidance Conflict: exists when ONE event or goal has both attractive and unattractive features<br>-Multiple Approach Avoidance Conflict: here you must choose between two or more things, each of which has both desirable and undesirable features<br>Six Basic Emotions: Joy, Anger, Disgust, Surprise, Fear, Sadness&nbsp;<br>-Opponent Process Theory: emotions are in pairs (fear/relief; pleasure/plain; depression/elation)&nbsp;<br>+scared to go through haunted house then relieved when done<br>+Drug addicts feel pain without the drug, then pleasure when taking it<br>+Drug addicts face a low low be<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Izard Theory: 10 basic emotions, cross-cultural, present in infancy, all other emotions are combo of original 10, 6 basic are joy, anger, disgust, surprise, sadness, fear<br>-Ekman's Theory: facial muscles are used to indicate emotion and are universal <br>-Duchenne Smile: a genuine smile<br>  +real smile triggers emotion part in brain<br>  +closed eyes, crows feet, lower teeth covered by lips<br>-Benefits of Smiling<br>+critical for social interaction: cues more attractiveness, stronger immune systems, lower stress, lower age<br>-Forced Smiling<br>+research suggests that facial expression partially drives emotion <br>LEARNED MOTIVES<br>-form of social motives but learned through modeling/observing others<br>1. aggression: intent to inflict harm or pain <br>+connected to learned helplessness<br>2. achievement<br>+need to excel/overcome obstacles<br>+highly motivated children and upbringing <br>+emotional and cognitive roots (w/ future achievements, birth order)<br>STIMULUS MOTIVES<br>-unlearned motives that encourage exploration of world<br>-used to obtain info on the world...even when bored<br>Yerkes Dodson Theory: optimum stress necessary for optimum performance<br>-too much stress=bad<br>-too little=bad<br>-right amount=positive/optimal performance </div>]]></description>
