I was always a average student when it came to grades in middle school; mainly B's & C's. I wasn't too focused & invested in school as I was focused on things outside of school like friends & hanging out (like most 13 & 14 year old's do. As I started High School & receive the same grades, I wasn't happy with them as I knew I could do better if i prioritized my studies more. The more introverted I became the better my grades got.

I figured since I only had online friends reaching/starting high school, I had more room & time to focus on important things in both the present and future. I began to pay extra attention in my classes & study more. I hated it at first; making myself study for algebra instead of scrolling through twitter was like a death sentence for me, but focusing on what's best for my future in todays age is mandatory.

I never thought I could find anyone who thinks almost similarly to me but during the beginning of high school I discovered my now favorite artist, Fiona Apple. I fell more infatuated with her the more performances & interviews, interviews more specifically because of her perspective on life. She was able to express the feelings, thoughts & emotions that I myself couldn't put into words or express myself. It became easier to have a silver lining on most negative situations as before I'd believe Earth would shatter and crumble if I messed up because as Fiona I could describe myself a overly sensitive person who feels emotions deeply & a lot.

This was one of the many quotes that gave me the self-assurance I was looking for. I find myself making a lot of mistakes as I'm constantly striving to do better, I'm aware I'm capable of it. I think & look back on the numerous mistakes I made & just think about how I developed and moved past it. There's only so much time we have on Earth that doesn't need to be spent on yearning over some stupid mistake from our past, time needs to be spent thinking of the present & future.

My Mom

I spend a lot of time with my mom as I got older & she's helped me so much through a lot but something really important she did (& still does) is teaching me the importance of being well educated & school in general. We both talk to each other a lot & that alone helped me learn & grow. She's reminds me how the real world is & helps me slowly prepare for it, throws new words I've never heard of that then peak my interest on different things further & gives me the best resources to help me learn everyday.

As all those things are important, my mom also helped inspired me to out what I want for my future.

Combining your change in grades in high school and your inspiration from Fiona has some good potential here. When reading, it does feel like Fiona could have inspired something in you that made you start trying harder in high school. Maybe I'm wrong, but I still see potential here.

Like Porthom said, maybe there is a way some of these topics can be connected with each other. The first two boxes talk about school and how your grades got better, which could be connected to your relationship with your mother and how she motivated you.

I believe these topics can relate to connections that others can make about their own life, though they are all unique to individuals. Like I found a connection, I started high school in a similar manner and found the best way to raise my grades was discipline from videogames and social media use. Another connection is how I am also inspired by my mother who has a lot in common with me, more than any of my other siblings, and me and my mom talk every day for hours on end. Though the experiences are all unique to individuals. I believe that these ideas can link together and tell a good essay.
