The idea of insecurities is extremely personal and what’s interesting about it is that no matter how minuscule they are to an outside eye, our mind is hyper-fixated on these “imperfections” to an extent of absurdity and irrationality. I wish I could talk to my younger self to step back and see the bigger picture. Smile with your teeth, don’t bend your knees when standing next to shorter people, don’t hide your forehead, your face is not that asymmetrical, you don’t need to have long hair to be popular, why do you even want to be popular? Today, I embrace these “imperfections” like I have never before and because of that I want to reflect the value and impact of this major change through visual photographs hyperbolizing and exposing each of the insecurities. I will then print each of them on separate sheets of fabric and either sew it into a book or make it a wearable sculpture that folds into a book. I also have an idea to distress each sheet of fabric or make the seams visible so it looks perfectly imperfect. I have attached a link to a moodboard that I have created on Pinterest to reflect the visual aesthetic and mood for the photographs I will take. I want the pictures to make the viewer feel uneasy and weirdly nostalgic.
