Now a thread of hair, now another thread of gold; (line 13)
They are saying that the hair of the knight is so important people should treat it like Gold. This is important to the story because anything that is gold is valued as expensive and very valuable. In this story they talk about how hair is being turned into gold. Which makes us realize that it is important because it was entirely in gold.

The main point of the passage is to show that a color is more than just a color. The author makes this point by pointing, and or, comparing a color to something important. Like Hair to Gold. This suggests that in the medieval times when people saw gold, it was marked as valuable which meant that the knight or whatever had the gold, was expensive and meant a lot. This is important because then we wouldn't see how something is really valued if we didn't see the comparison.

The main point of the number is to show how they talk in the medieval times and how their language is different from now. The author makes the point by using twelvemonths and a day, instead of saying a year and a day. This suggests we are in a medieval time because of the way the language is. This idea is important because it shows how much the language has changed from the different time periods.
