Here are some methods of learning a 2nd language:
1. Social interactions
Forced or willing exposure to a language (moving to a foreign country, talking to foreigners, making friends in foreign countries) could lead one to assimilate that language, even if it is to a basic conversational level

2.Language courses
School, after school courses, collage, online courses, etc

3.In family
Exposure to family heritage including parent's mother language. This method of 2nd language acquisition is more visible in multi cultural areas (such as towns close to borders)

4.Entertainment
Interest in a foreign language could be spiked by forms of entertainment (books, tv, youtube, movies) in that language

5. Reading out loud in the 2nd language
This could be a great exercise for both pronunciation and reading in one go.  On top of this, translating random sentences or even thinking using the 2nd language could familiarize the person with using that language casually.
