Read Aloud- The Jacket by Gary Soto
This short story read aloud was chosen because Gary needs a new coat. He describes a super cool biker jacket to his mom, yet instead he mom purchases a guacamole colored coat this is far too big for him. He wears the ugly thing for years and describes in sad detail the negative impact it had on his life and his eventual acceptance of the thing and his situation. In this story the character demonstrates insecurities related to his jacket. He describes scenes where he believes people are laughing at him and his coat.
