I feel closer to myself and my surroundings when I do an artistic study, perhaps because I am less afraid of being wrong.

As both TED talks suggested, art education serves the purpose of giving students more open-ended problems along with teaching technical skills. The open-endedness of these problems matches closer to the openness of problems in the work force, so art classes help students build confidence in facing problems that do not have a clear starting point.

I feel comfortable with ambiguity because I have faced ambiguous tasks before (so I've developed the basic level of confidence that comes with trying something that was previously unfamiliar) and I enjoy the process of starting over and reorganizing parts that I may have used in a previous attempt in a new way, if that makes sense.

To me, self-direction means that the process to reach an end point is left to my own devices. I find examples are harmful to my self-direction and if I desire to create on my own terms I do not like examples. That being said, I do not always like to work on my own terms, but in art class, I usually do.

I like unique prompts (in the sense that prompts are relayed through different mediums and styles) because of the ways that I like to take prompts apart and make new prompts out of them (i.e. if I get a prompt I break down the clauses of it and focus on them separately and all of a sudden I actually have 5 separate prompts based on the one prompt and then I continue the process and I mix and match stuff). I would like to teach this process to others and I believe it is the most enjoyable way to work with prompts.

I would like to work with prompts but I would not like my work to be perceived relative to the prompts; meaning I do not want you to say "I don't see how this related to the prompt."

I think that art is the expression of self. I believe that it's best showcased in more professional artworks, but even cartoons can and should show the artists inner self. I think anything you make should be uniquely YOU, even if it's fan-art for something. The fact that you are making art work for something that brings you joy is an amazing way to express yourself.

In my head, creativity is the ability to see things what they COULD be, for what COULD happen, even if you aren't fully able to accomplish it. To look at a blank wall, or a pile of junk, or even a small detail where others see nothing, and envision a work of art. THAT, to me, is creativity.

Sadly, I think people talk about how important it is more then they actually implement it. When you're in a normal classroom, you can see the creativity that many students actually have, but society has convinced itself that if you are not born with this talent, this GIFT, then you can't be an artist. I think people are too focused on quality of art then they are on the person behind it. Maybe someone's art doesn't meet your standards for what an artist should be able to do, but they just need to find their own way of expressing themselves. The school system values the 'pretty' side of art, but they're quick to shut down anyone who doesn't fit that form. At least, that's how it feels from some angles.

I believe it could be good to exercise the mind. To me, ambiguity feels like a choose your own adventure book. I feel like the prompt of "go outside your comfort zone" is something that should (sometimes) be the only instructions. What does that entail? No idea! It could be constricting yourself to a color pallet, using materials you aren't used to, following a difficult reference, anything! It's so open-ended and stressful but in the best way possible. You're encouraged to try, to fail, to do something new and you might even fall in love with it. Although I typically prefer strict and concise instruction, an ambiguous task feels like recess for your mind.

I think the value of art being a class in school is immense. Having an art class in school can help people learn how to adapt and open their mind to more possibilities. I also think that art helps people refine different types of art instead of just having a forte in one medium. Art can help people feel more comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Saved for last is that art helps people understand that they don't have to be artistically gifted to be "good" at art.
