Of course it's the PR Singapore has out there, but also Singapore is somewhere that a lot of people Indians (urban Indians la mostly) know at least some far-off relative from Singapore and they're all yay Singapore is great and usually because these people are expats/trained professionals in Singapore, they only have good stories about Singapore. Also let's be real this place is a lot more put-together than India. But also it's a city-state vs a huge country, also one that got the "good" parts of colonialism, i.e. it was used as a trading port not used for its natural resources etc like larger colonised states were. So yeah, Singapore's branding, actually being p chill and clean, and also because this is the kinda narratives wealthier Indians tell their families back home (vs many who went to like Canada for e.g. who were working class Indians).

Actually, before I forget completely, I wanted to seize on what Prof Goh said: why is it that Singaporeans know so much about India's problems, but Indians themselves believe Singapore is a perfect country? I'm thinking it has something to do with the coverage of information (Singapore has a really good PR team apparently) but could it be anything else?
