I view equity to mean fair and impartial.
3. From wiki Social justice means: justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society. Tying these together under the banner of education is a mighty challenge. I am glad the preceding video mentions God, as it will take that level of intervention (and funding) for full success.

When I think of Urban education, I think of inner city schools, within a large school district. The students come from all walks of life. Middle to upper class to poor, all races, all backgrounds, all religions. The funding comes from the state, and is often lacking in enough resources for all the students, and teachers.
I feel that there is equality in that all students and teachers are in the same boat, within the urban schools. But when compared to private schools, they lack in comparison to resources and funding. The social justice, would be creating a system where all would have a fair opportunity at receiving the same education. Of course, that will not always be the case when it comes to funding, and like stated previously, having the funds to create a system that is fair to everyone.

Since urban is the opposite of rural, I believe urban education involves schools in big, populated cities, probably closest to the city center rather than suburbs. Equity is equal opportunities for all (not the same as equality). Some need accommodations in order to have equal opportunities to others. Equity is kind of like fairness. Social justice is creating a more equitable world, particularly creating more opportunities for groups who are treated poorly or do not have the same privilege as those in power, such as women, minorities, LGBTQ people, people with disabilities, the economically disadvantaged, homeless, etc.

Urban Education entails schools that are located in metropolitan communities which are diverse, and usually have large enrollments. Many students come to school with deficits that include poor reading performance and retention in grades; therefore they have difficulty with their school careers. Students have serious academic and social problems. In order to aid this problem, a restructuring would have to focus on curriculum, instructional methods, family support, assessment, and remediation. The program would have to be based on the best available research evidence to attempt to guarantee every child a level of basic skills sufficient to serve as a basis for success in the later grades.

Equity means that everyone gets access to what they need ensuring that everyone receives what they need to be successful , even if that varies across racial or socioeconomic lines. Culturally responsive teaching (CRT) is that we work toward equity by ensuring that marginalized students receive opportunities for high-level thinking and grow into deep thinkers. Differentiation is a pathway toward equity because it tasks teachers with truly understanding the needs, the evolving needs, of their students and providing modalities for learning and challenges that fit those needs. Making sure that low-income students and students of color have access to exceptional teachers and that their schools have the funding to provide them with the kind of high-quality education they need to succeed. Ensuring that students who need more to achieve success receive those resources and opportunities illustrates equity in action.

Social justice is to help students develop the critical thinking, collaboration, and self-reflection skills necessary to foster a better society, by using critical examination of themselves, others, institutions and events to find patterns of inequality, bigotry or discrimination, then explore the possible solutions to the problems identified. In hope of building a society in which individuals have equal access to resources and receive equitable treatment regardless of their race, gender, religion, sexuality, income level or disability. A teacher must build a safe, encouraging environment where students’ affective filter is low so they can speak about their experiences and beliefs. This creation of a community of conscience ensures that students’ voices, opinions and ideas are valued and respected by all parties. The teacher needs to facilitate productive conversations to share ideas and respond to the ideas of others in a way that allows for disagreement but still value the students’ perspective. They should draw upon the diverse backgrounds of their students. The information revealed will include multiple perspectives and better resonate with students’ prior knowledge. These conversations should be about real-world issues that affect students’ everyday lives. Teachers can help them act upon the issues they see but using activist strategies such as social media campaigns, demonstrations and teach-ins to raise awareness of an issue and build support for positive change.

For this to happen, there must be a shared understanding that underperforming students have been underserved with inadequate resources that limited their success.

Dictionary.com defines urban in part as "living, located, or taking place in a city;" therefore, I think of urban education as education occurring in schools within a city. However, there are other connotations when people use the word "urban" to talk about schools and education. What they are referring to are diverse, underfunded schools in low socioeconomic areas. You would probably not refer to an elite private school as an “urban school” regardless of its location.

Equity is ensuring people get what they need, and social justice is ensuring people are treated equitably throughout our society.
