The oldest seer in the desert says to the camel driver: “The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.” (pg. 95). I appreciate the wisdom in this quote. It says to me, what’s important is happening today, not someday. I’m often worrying about the future. This line from The Alchemist reminds me that the future is being created by me, and all of us, right now. The seer is referring to paying attention to omens. I also believe in omens. I believe some things in life are like signs, letting us know if we are heading in a good or bad direction.

The context of this quote is having a dream possibly come true is exciting. I resonate with this quote because I've had things I was excited about come true.

"When people consult me, it's not that i'm reading the future; I am guessing at the future. The future belongs to God, and it is only he who reveals it, under extraordinary circumstances." -the seer pg. 108

This stood out to me because a lot of people say they can tell into the future or they see whats about to happen but only God can give you that perspective if he wants you to see it. It could be something that will happen to you, a friend, or a loved one, or something that happens in the world. But if not, you can guess the future, just don't be so sure about it. I believe that God is in control of everything since he made everything. He is the beginning, and the end.

This is a quote from page 25, and it's just a quote. "If you start out by promising what you don't even have yet, you'll lose your desire to work toward getting it" This really just stuck out to me cause some people be promising thing that they don't have, and then they don't really work for what they say they promised you. Also this quote just hit me really hard cause it’s something that just makes sense to me. This quote also reflects my life cause some people that I know say things or promise things that they don’t have and will not do for me.

My favorite quote from the book "The Alchemist" is the one on page 72 that says "There's no such thing as coincidence" I like this quote and i think that it ties into the themes of Fate/Destiny because it kind of is saying that coincidence doesn't exist and everything is willed and destined to happen and while you may think that it was a coincidence that something good might have happened to you that it was supposed to happen to you and to believe in your fate and believe in your destiny and you will be okay because these happy "coincidences" that happen to you are fated to happen for you and not against you.

A good quote in this book is Fatima's reaction following the news the boy would be leaving to pursue his personal legend: "Fatima went back to her tent, and, when daylight came, she went out to do the chores she had done for years. But everything had changed. The boy was no longer at the oasis, and the oasis would never again have the same meaning it had had only yesterday. It would no longer be a place with fifty thousand palm trees and three hundred wells, where the pilgrims arrive, relieved at the end of their long journeys. From that day on, the oasis would be an empty place fore her. From that day on, it was the desert that would be important. She would look to it every day, and would try to guess which star the boy was following in search of his treasure."- Page 122. This is a good poetic example of Fatima's hope when she looks at the desert, and her eagerness in awaiting Santiago's return.

"he condemned the commander to death without honor. Rather than being killed by a blade or a bullet, he was hanged from a dead palm tree, where his body twisted in the desert wind.". this quote had resonated with me, because although he could've made peace with the oasis to rest him and his army, he, without hesitation had charged in weapons drawn. and had earned a fate with no honor, stricken with fear, and his body hanged. the battle had ended the same at its start, with the failing army to lose without honor.

"Making a decision was only the beginning of things. When Someone makes a decision, he is really diving into a strong current that will carry him to places he had never dreamed of when he first made that decision" - Pg. 70. This quote represents the theme of fate and how everything falls into place, even when it all begins from something so small. This realization made by Santiago was strange but eye opening, he realized that every choice he made mattered and that you can never really expect what to get out of it. The past events of his life were so random and life changing that he decides to take more risks and do what his heart desired. Following his personal legend, seeing where it will take him next.

On page 120 the alchemist says this to Santiago, "You must understand that love never keeps a man from perusing his personal legend. If he abandons that pursuit, it's because it wasn't true love".

The alchemist says this to the boy when he begins to consider the possibility of abandoning his mission of finding treasure to stay at the oasis with Fatiama.

The reason I Like this quote is because it illustrates how Love doesn't aways go hand and hand with being together and how sometimes love is struggle.

this quote shows that because the easy thing for the boy to do would be to stay at the oasis with the love of his life. But the harder thing to do that would be a real test of there love would be him going to peruse his personal legend as Fatiama waits for him.

My favorite quote from the book, The Alchemist, has to do with the future and omens. This is first brought up when Santiago is having a conversation with the camel driver about his vision. The camel driver is talking to Santiago about wanting to know his future. Saying how, "If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better." (pg. 104). What I take from this quote is to not be stuck in the future and what will come, and to instead live in the moment. I relate to this quote heavily because I find myself overthinking about the future and what I am going to do too often. As I do this, I miss all these experiences and opportunities that are given to me now.

Page 97 in one of the books Santiago says "I'm going to wait here for you every day. I have crossed the desert in search of a treasure that is somewhere near the Pyramids, and for me, the war seemed a cruse. But now it's a blessing, because it brought me to you." This quote is a bit of a goofy one as it shows how someone would think of such things or say they'd do such things just because of love, even if it was someone they've recently met or someone they have been waiting. Santiago in this case, has just met Fatima and he's already head over heels for her which is also pretty cute.

There are several good quotes in the book, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. My favorite quote in the book is, “It’s the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.” This quote is found on page 20 where the boy is considering his dream, and thinking about the merchants daughter. This is the scene where he decides to see the old woman. I like this quote because I think that it really resonates with me. Dreaming makes life fun, the probability of doing the things you dream about are slim. However, if you have the motivation, then it can become a reality. *If the dream is within reason* Life would be boring if you didn’t dream, I think whether you dream of the future or something else, dreaming is what makes life interesting.

"If good things are coming, they will be a pleasant surprise, If bad things are, and you know in advance, you will suffer greatly before they even occur." This occurs on page 107 as the cab driver talks to the seer. The quote resonates with me as at multiple points in my life I wished I could know what will happen in future, just for the sake of knowing. Seeing a quote like this can relax me and tell me to just go with the flow and live in the present instead of worrying about the things that may happen.

"Allah created the armies, and the he also created the hawks. Allah taught me the language of the birds. Everything has been written by the same hand," the boy said, remembering the camel driver's words."(Coelho 110). I appreciate this quote because the boys felt as if he has accomplished everything he was set out to do on this journey. As well as this mindset resonating with what I believe in with if his life has ended in that moment he would be content. There was no need for him to be concerned about if he did or didn't die in that moment as the Soul of the World awaited for him.

This quote resonates to me because I used to be scared to do things because of the fear of failing, but now I embrace it and think about how I failed and how I can do better, that’s why I like this quote so much.
