I have used a sense diary to record all of my artist research and other thoughts, some primary research and sketches. I found that using a sense diary helped me out last project so for here i will just be showing off my development.

Theme-Time and Changes

Here Is a mind map I made while looking at the idea of time and changes. I wanted to branch out on what change could mean. I think for this theme i want to look at physical changes in portraiture while having some botanical elements added for symbolism as flowers tend to change drastically over a short period of time.

Here i looked at monochrome blue to see if i can achieve a mood, i also added squares in of the face that show changes peeking through. I think the idea i aim for would work much better as a series of 2 or 3 but i'm glad i tries this as it helped my development. I had used acrylic paint on A2 here which i like the results with this medium.

I used acrylic and medium here, i do like the results and i am thinking of using this medium in a final piece. I think i will do this sort of idea but have the face completely covered with the flowers.

Overlapping using inks, i like the idea of the overlapping style but i don't think it worked out the way i had thought so i wont be doing this idea any further. I'm glad i tried for the development. I used a monochrome palette with splatters and drips.

Here i had used watercolor wet on wet for more development. This means i can erase the identity by letting the paint cover the face so it shows that it can be more general.

During my group crit, one of my classmates spoke about trying out a more surrealistic idea so i done these 2 gouache paintings to see how it would appear while keeping it more refined. I do like this idea as it is interesting but i think i will keep to my other idea with the flowers maybe framing the face as i personally like it more.

While thinking about my idea i started off by using myself as a reference. Here i used acrylic paint on A2 paper. I wanted to try working large again and try being more loose with my paintings. For this idea i wasn't sure if working with my face was right because i wanted i wanted to look at the general idea of changing rather than me personally. I used myself as reference by observing from mirror throughout my development.

Here with just using watercolor i painted all the faces in the one piece and let the colors mix among each other when wet to get an interesting look. I have thought of maybe taking watercolor into a final piece as i do like the colors i get using this medium. I think I will continue to develop the series of 3.

Here I had used both Ink and watercolor and loosely painted in a face with the flowers and letting the wet paint drip. I thought having the flowers or paint hide the face would be a good idea if i want to not have a specific identity in my work.

Here i used ink and colored pencil to paint a loose idea and try it as a series. I like how faded and washed this turned out and made interesting development. I did not use any form of reference here so i could stray away from a specific identity.

I tried the same idea but used acrylic to make the flowers stand out. I've thought using Iris flowers and chrysanthemum flowers would be interesting as the iris represents change and the mum's represent death.
