At 3 months old Elijah is getting to know his surroundings, he is smiling at people and his toys. He is also laughing at the little dog at home.

Elijah has been in good health except for occasional bouts of indigestion and diarrhea. After these bouts are over, Elijah is usually interested in trying new foods.

Elijah's gross and fine motor skills are a little behind for his age and he did not do much exploring of the playroom. the doctor advised me to engage in more one-on-one gross and fine-motor play with him.

Elijah has become good at solving problems that he plans out in his head, such as how to get toys or other objects that are hidden or out of reach. I encourage him to use these new cognitive skills to solve problems.

Elijah is toilet-trained now, and hardly ever has any accidents. He is communicating better and knows his gender now, and he is designating behavior and objects as suited to boys or girls.

Elijah enjoys fantasy play and tends to enact scenes with his toy animals and cartoon figures, sometimes playing for half an hour at a time.

Elijah has already learned most of the letters and their sounds from watching educational TV, and from games and sounds at preschool, can write his name and read a few words.

Elijah continues to be quiet and shy at school but has made a couple of friends. The teacher says that he is great at following class rules, but he needs to increase his independence and self-reliance.

Elijah is good at learning the words of songs in school and has a decent voice, I tried to encourage him to take piano lessons but he was not interested, however, he started to learn how to play the electronic keyboard at home, following some simple instructions from a book.

Elijah seems to be able to eat a lot without gaining any weight. I figure this is due to rapid growth during this period of his life and don't place any restrictions on his diet.

Elijah had a serious fight with his best friend at the beginning of fifth grade and has not made up. He has been moody lately. His teacher has commented that his classroom behavior has been problematic.

Elijah's oral reading and decoding skills are above grade level, and his reading comprehension is about grade level. Elijah can type now, thanks to a sixth-grade keyboarding class, so I help him with writing his assignments at home.
