The Puritans wanted to rid the Church of any Catholic residue and build upon the ideas of John Calvin but the King put them under persecution. When this happened they fled to North America, which is where they established the Massachusetts Bay colony. They practiced their beliefs in peace away from harassment from the king. There was one way of knowing and that was through the grace of God. He was most notable for The Crucible and Death of A Salesman. In the 1950s, thousands of Americans were being accused of being communist or communist sympathizers. Miller was one of them. He refused to be a communist and refused to give evidence of anyone he knows of being one. He told the Committee that this is exactly like the Salem Witch Trials of 1692.
