What is your life worthy learning? Why does this matter?

I never believed that current events could be compared to the theories of political philosophers that lived during the enlightenment. This is a worthy discovery, because it allows me to see the news that I consume through a different perspective.

My life worthy learning from the discussion that my group had today is that the wisdom of the Enlightenment Philosophers still exist today. The American system of government is based off of Rousseau's idea of the social contract. The people of the United States and Canada give their consent to be governed by the government. Thomas Hobbs can be found in the article about capitalism and politics in general. For example, do modern politicians seek the good for society or the good for themselves? Voltaire still exists in the religious freedom we enjoy in Canadian society. John Locke exists in the freedom we have. Montesqueiu exists in the different branches of government that we have.
Overall the Enlightenment shaped the society we have today.

my life worthy learning was that many different people in history had different views but i can apply their views to about every situation in our world today. I think this matters because we should know where our politics and views come from. We believe what our parents tell us but we should know about all the views that we have the option to follow or believe.

It is interesting to see these philosophers, searching for the same goal: what works in society, while holding such different perspectives.

Once looking at what others believe in I was able to look back at myself and see where I think I would stand and what I would believe if put in the same circumstances.

My life worthy learning was that people in positions of power often don't have that secure of a position of power. This is important because for people like Donald Trump, there is only so much security in his position of power and there are certainly rules put in place that would stop him from making certain decisions based on rules that were written a long time ago.
