The falling action in the novel follows the deaths in Junior's family with the completion of his first year in high school. Grandma Spirit- Junior's grandma; she is wise and humble. She dies in the novel.

Rowdy- Junior's best friend. Rowdy is emotionally withdrawn and aggressive.
