Summary of "New Billionaire: How A Poor Immigrant Scored A $4.3 Billion Fortune In Cable"

Rocco Camisso grew up in Calabria, Italy, right as it was being defeated on World War 2. In 1956, he moved to America hoping to start a new life for himself. He was accepted into a private Catholic school, and used his talent of playing the accordion to his advantage in life. Once he wanted to apply to college, his gym teacher called the soccer coach at Columbia University and got him a scholarship to the school, without even playing soccer in high school. After he graduated, he slowly started working his way up with a variety of jobs, and eventually founded Mediacom, which earned him billions since.

Theme

The theme of both pieces is that no matter where you begin in life, as long as you try hard you can always succeed. This is shown in Liz going from a household of drug addicted parents who can barely afford putting food on the table, to going to Harvard, graduating, and becoming a motivational speaker. In the articles case, Camisso grew up in Italy right after the war, and was not too well off there, as he moved to America to live a better life. He worked hard in school and his jobs to start his own company, and is now a billionaire.

These are still relevant today because when people are at rock bottom they think that there is no way out, but these cases show that no matter how low someone gets, they can still get back up and do amazing things with their lives.
