This Painting was widely famous in its effects on the great depression. The effect could be different for those looking at it. I would say it is supposed to make you just a little unsettled with the man staring directly at the audience, perhaps the feeling meant to be evoked is simply that of wondering or questioning to hope and want to learn more about the work of art

This scene from Lego Monkie Kid is supposed to make you feel intimidated. It uses an angle to make it seem like the characters are looking down on you, and they are all posed like they’re ready for a fight. The purpose is to get the viewer more immersed in the show.

This phenomenal costume is designed to make you look a mix of ridiculous and cool. They do this by making the dinosaur head taller than you, and with lots of teeth so it looks intimidating. However, when you walk in this because of the way the legs are cut it looks like you are waddling. People wear it to stand out during athletic meets, especially end of the season ones, and costume parties where they want to stand out. This is art at its finest.

One device they use to make the show feel more Korean is when Appa corrects Rich when he says ginseng. Appa calls it by its Korean name, insam, and makes Rich do the same thing. It is showing a part of not just Asian culture as a whole, but specifically Korean. They do this to show the audience that identity and culture is more complex then just “being Asian” or an Asian immigrant in Canada

1) The parents accents vs. the kids:
Umma and Appa both are portrayed as having thick Korean accents, which makes sense considering they lived and were raised in Korea. But their kids both have Canadian accents, as they were born or at least raised in Canada. And this creates a powerful disconnect between the family, not just because of the accents themselves, but because it is an obvious way to showcase the cultural difference between the two generations after the parents uprooted their life in Korea to try and get a better one for their kids. Even if Jung and Janet are sometimes unable to see this dynamic between the four of them.

2) Jung and Appa's fight:
A very big and violent one, so violent that Jung ended up in the hospital. And then he left. This is just another way of showing the really extreme disconnect between the two generations and their misunderstanding of each other. Instead of using his words Appa hits his son. And instead of talking with his dad, Jung steals from his whole family and runs away for a very long time. This can serve as a way for the audience to really understand the unhealthy relationship between Jung and his father. And the consequences to the unresolved issues that can have on a family. If you are willing to hit you children and yell at them, you shouldn't be surprised if they fell angry or unsafe and choose to run away.

3) Jung's disappointment in his own life:
While talking to Umma we hear a little more about Jung's background and the conversation about his old friends that follow. All of the having seemingly successful lives, (at least compared to Jung). And you can understand and somewhat empathize with the regret he is feeling. Although he surely loves his family, he wishes he could go back and redo his life, not drop out of high school, at least get a GED and go to college so he can get a job he is prouder of. This could be a message to the audience about not making rash decisions because of a fight you got in with your dad.

One device they use is Appa quizzing Jung on Korean history. This is the first scene where they have common ground, since they are talking about first the convenience store, their family’s history, and then Korean history as a whole. This also shows the audience contributions of Korean people that are often overlooked.
