There are a range of different people accessing music through different ways than YouTube. Young people are more likely to use YouTube and other streaming sites to listen to music as it's easily accessible and free. However, the amount of young people listening to music on CD or on radio stations has dropped massively. For example Radio 1Xtra fell 11.4% over the last three months of 2016. This is because the radio isn't mobile unlike YouTube or streaming sites and young people are out a lot more than older people.

People are using YouTube to listen to new music, watch videos of their favourite YouTubers and many also use it to find out how to do specific things. As you can use YouTube for more than just listening to music, this gains more audience attraction to the website and it gets used by a wide range of people.
