The initial hurdle for many international travelers is acquiring foreign currency. While the immediate thought might be to utilize the services available at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a deeper understanding of the economics involved reveals that this convenience often comes at a significant premium.

The Sea-Tac Currency Exchange Landscape:

At SEA, the predominant currency exchange provider is International Currency Exchange (ICE). They maintain several strategic locations throughout the airport to cater to the needs of both arriving and departing international passengers.

• Pre-Security Location: You'll find an ICE counter in the Ticketing area, specifically near Checkpoint 2. This is a convenient option if you need to exchange currency before checking your bags, or if you have non-traveling companions with you. Their operating hours are typically generous, running from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 p.m., seven days a week.

• Post-Security Locations: For travelers who have already cleared security, ICE also operates kiosks and counters within the concourses. Common examples include a kiosk near Gates A4 and A5 (often in front of a Starbucks) and another significant presence at the "S" Gates (S1-S16), located at the top of the escalators, directly across from the Duty Free shop. These post-security locations generally have slightly shorter operating hours, often from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM daily.
