One day to go and you will sign off an honest & competent performance. Didn’t you start only the other day? You have been a doting father, a trustworthy friend, a useful member of the larger society apart from being a committed employee. You discharged each bit of your responsibility without blemish. Every role of yours will be cherished by everyone associated with you. Moment to pause & take pride in the stellar show.

Now is the time to start doing what you left undone to nourish your own soul. I am sure reading would be a good chunk of it. Pick up some new exciting stuff like Golf along with tall glass & long sofa.

I understand you will settle in Bangalore. Your family & Kamini di’s family will have riots of laughter together. Presence of uncle amongst you people intermittently will be like premium bonus. Make it a superior inning full of peace, purpose, playfulness and passion for the causes begging your attention for so long. 

The company of even one like minded pleasing and committed soul makes it an “Anjuman”. I do not find an equivalent English word. Your wife has been one such soul who kept you going through thick and thin, at times sacrificing her legitimate personal pursuits. Now she has the greatest claim on your time including the deferred claims of the past. I am sure you will do justice on this count.

Your kids, like all other kids including my kids, challenged your patience but you rose to the occasion to guide them towards a fulfilling & materially rewarding course. Take pride in your efforts and their timely absorption of your guidance.

I knew you first as my junior in NTPC in the same profession.That was merely the starting point of connect. We became like a family. Today your identification with me only as NTPC employee known will be huge disrespect to truth. It therefore logically follows that NTPC or no NTPC, you will stay the same in my scheme of things. 

Wish you everything which you so richly deserve. Integrity is something which was never found wanting in you. Pat your back. Ask Supriya to this job on my behalf.

Will see you in Bangalore. I am in Kolkata. Reached last night. Planning for cataract operations. Rest of the course is dependent on this.

And yes let me share with you my biggest moment of annoyance with you. That was the when you had asked as to why Muslims have starting calling Ramzan as Ramadan and I was quite brusque in my reply. That question had earlier come to me from the quarters I disliked to the core. You understand the context. I had not relished this coming from you but systemic risks are all pervasive. I thought of recalling this moment with you just to underpin that best of gardens also have spiders.

Superannuation is a foretold culmination of any Govt. or PSU jobs and it is inevitable. For most people, it happens to be a day of liberation from the office routine and the Organization also is happy to shake hands with the outgoing person, exchange goodies, extends a decent farewell and bids adieu. But for some, it turns out to be a day when his colleagues and superiors and infact the whole organization becomes so sad and doesn't want to part with that person. 

Those few like you are able to, with your attitude, temperament and load bearing capabilities, make yourselves so invaluable and indispensable that it becomes difficult for your offices to imagine themselves without you being there for them. We all are so proud of you for proving yourself time and again with your commitment, ingeniousness resourcefulness and quality output that you are different and you are special.

Atul ji, accept our best wishes for starting your second inning and welcome to our Seniors' club and to the city of Bangalore. We are particularly excited about that and also like on many previous instances, once again we will be able to plan our holidays together.

You're finally retired! I am sure it will take some time for this to sink in...after 35 long years of working relentlessly! You might think you are at the end line...but this is just the beginning! It's time for you to live for YOURSELF. 

As you venture in this new phase in your life, I'd like to share a little wisdom I have gained in my very short life. *wink*
Our brains are not really in our control. It is controlled by someone or something that tries to manipulate and influence you in many different ways every day. It will convince you that it knows better. But your heart...your heart is pure and will never lie to you. Your brain will often give you hundreds of reasons to do or not do something. But your heart...your heart will tell you the truth. So if you are ever in a dilemma - follow your heart. It's always the harder path / the road less taken but this journey is beautiful and you won't regret it (no matter what the results are!).

But enough with the life lessons. I can preach more when you come to Canada, haha!

I am so so proud of you. Even though this career is not what you wanted, you have left many of us inspired. I am so proud that you are my father - I cannot think of anyone else who could have done the job better or supported me the way you have supported me throughout my life, despite all our differences. 

I love you so much, papa. I wish I was there with you in person to share this special milestone but we are connected in so many different ways. I feel you in my heart and I am sure you feel me too.

Congratulations and a very happy retirement, papa!

I always remember when we came from Telaiya to Shanti Niketan, you came for physiotherapy in our lane and sat with Papa and Ma with a cup of coffee. They were very high happy in your company.
