Which ethical computing guideline I think students violate most

I think the first commandment is violated most. Cyber bullying is a big problem in our society, as kids younger and younger are exposed to social media. Bullying over the internet can have huge consequences that we see on the news or in the newspapers everyday. Harming others online is the same as harming them in person, and this continues to be a problem we must address with everyone from our children to the adults of the world.

Why do these violations occur?

I think cyber bullying is still happening because people, especially teenagers, are looking for acceptance from others. When they bully people perceived as lesser, they make themselves feel better and appeal to the other bullies, thus feeling accepted. The bullies themselves are insecure about themselves and must get validation from putting others down. Bullying at schools has gone on since schools have been around. Now that many teens are online, they can bring these ways online to constantly harass the victims.

What can be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

I think that by teaching children from an early age to be accepting of others, no matter how different they are can drastically reduce cyber bullying. By giving children an environment of acceptance, there will be no room for bullying others. Parents should teach their children how to be leaders, to sit with the lonely kid at lunch, to make friends with a perceived odd kid. This will help reduce bullying in general, and therefore cyber bullying.
