Thoriso is continuing to develop his visual perceptual skills. He is still in the process of mastering certain visual tasks and at times finds it challenging to maintain focus during written worksheet activities, which impacts his overall concentration, but he is working so nicely to improve, well done my boy. He shows some hesitation when engaging in visual closure, visual discrimination and visual sequencing activities, often preferring to wait for teacher guidance before attempting them independently. With continued encouragement and structured support, Thoriso will gain greater confidence and independence in these areas.

Auditory Development:

Thoriso enjoys participating in auditory closure games such as “What Comes Next” and “Complete the Sentence”, where he demonstrates enthusiasm and understanding of the concepts presented. However, during group discussions and morning ring activities, he often struggles to maintain his focus and attention and participate actively. At times, he appears easily distracted and preoccupied, requiring frequent reminders to listen and remain engaged. With ongoing support and gentle redirection, Thoriso will continue to develop his auditory attention and listening focus within the class setting.

Thoriso is making steady progress in his fine motor development and continues to show determination in improving his skills. He demonstrates good pencil grip and control, as well as a strong pincer grip when picking up small objects such as pegs. He enjoys threading beads and working with different sized or shaped pegs, completing these tasks with growing confidence. Cutting activities still require some extra practice, but his willingness to listen to advice and his eagerness to improve ensure that he continues to make wonderful progress.

Thoriso displays wonderful enthusiasm and energy during gross motor activities. He eagerly participates in every new or challenging task, showing growing strength, coordination and confidence. He enjoys running, hopping, jumping, balancing and completing obstacle courses, often doing so with a big smile. Ball games are among his favourites and he shows great team spirit by cheering on his friends during group activities. During outdoor play, Thoriso loves climbing, sliding and confidently going down the fireman pole on the jungle gym, demonstrating both skill and joy in movement

Thoriso has shown continuous improvement in his overall physical development throughout the year. Assessments indicate clear right-hand, foot and eye dominance. He has demonstrated steady growth in body awareness and coordination as can be seen in his latest drawings of himself. Thoriso has a solid understanding of basic body parts and can confidently name and identify them. He also shows a good awareness of his senses and the corresponding body parts associated with each.

Thoriso has made significant progress in building more confidence in speaking. It is wonderful to see him becoming more comfortable expressing himself verbally, which is a great step towards his development. Thoriso can recite the phonetic alphabet and is able to identify and recognize almost all the letters. During the written activities, he needs continuous encouragement and motivation to complete his work in the given timeframe and he is showing improvement, I am so proud of you my boy. He understands that writing starts on the left of the page continuing to the right and is still practicing to write his name, surname and Birthday from memory.

Thoriso shows great enthusiasm for learning additional languages. He can confidently recite the days of the week, months of the year, as well as shapes and colours in English and is still practising to do so in Afrikaans and isiZulu. He particularly enjoys learning the “word of the week” in the additional languages and eagerly engages with the accompanying sign language gesture. Thoriso is able to recall and identify several sign language gestures with growing accuracy, reflecting his genuine interest and positive attitude towards language learning

Thoriso has developed a clear love for mathematics and shows genuine enjoyment during numeracy activities. He can confidently rote count from 0–100 and demonstrates good understanding when using concrete materials such as the counter sheet, abacus, and counting blocks. However, he still requires some assistance to remain focused and to use the materials purposefully, as his attention can sometimes drift to play. Thoriso is able to complete basic addition and subtraction within 10 and uses correct number formations as taught. He shows particular enjoyment and confidence when working with picture-based math activities, which help reinforce his understanding in a fun and engaging way
