The Battle of Yorktown was a long one. It started with the George Washington allying with the French Commander Rochambeau. They fought in Virginia, and this is where he joined with Lafayette. After this, they moved about 4,000 soldiers down south to Chesapeake. There, the French drove them away from the bay. Later moving on to fight in Yorktown, Cornwallis thought he would have backup of about 5,000 men from New York. Cornwallis was outnumbered and Hamilton lead a attack during the night and forced the British to surrender. This was the final major engagement of the Revolutionary war

The Colonists had three leaders who could all hold their own versus the one British commander. They had George Washington, the venerated Virginian veteran, Lafayette, America's favorite fighting Frenchman, and Alexander Hamilton, the orphan. George Washington had a habit of being a really rallying leader. He once convinced his own army to stay to fight when they weren't promised anything other than freedom. Hamilton was as determined as they come, and Lafayette was cunning. They made executive decisions that lead to the defeat of the British, including making the plans to capture the British and end the war.

Cornwallis had a solid plan and executed it accordingly, but it just wasn't enough when it came to the sheer numbers that the French provided, when de Grasse gave the colonists their Navy. His plan also mainly relied on reinforcements that never came. Cornwallis, having stayed in a condensed spot with a limited amount of troops, made himself very vulnerable because he could easily be surrounded. He couldn't get enough troops together while overseas (plus he wasn't very resepected.

They used their resources rather poorly, but it was also due to the fact that he didn't really have any. With Washington and Lafayette constantly shadowing his movements, he was quickly surrounded, running from the relentless colonists on land and then walled in by the French in the sea. Unable to get aid, supplies, or backup, they were quickly forced to surrender.

This battle was one of the most uniquely fought battles in the revolutionary war. This is because the American colonists were desperate. Requiring the aid of several leaders and other strategists, the plan was to remain relentless, fighting through the casualties, and to entrap them by backing them into a corner. Some of the choices made that proved this were the choice to split his men, and to lead an attack in the night, and who he entrusted command to.

May 21 1781, Cornwallis landed at the port of Petersburg Virginia, and went to New York and took it over. Cornwallis was clearly not as determined as Washington was with his troops. When he got to the colonies all he did was to sit down and chill out, to wait until he got attacked. This wasn't very effective, because after the steadfast colonist army. Cornwallis just kind of kept moving away from them, his behaviour very lazy and reactionary.
