This story investigates a range of early learning goals, the main aspect being Personal, Social and Emotional Development. Therefore the drama will explore this element of learning, as the story explores emotions and feelings, both positive and negative. It is an effective resource to use with young learners, and can be extended cross-curricular through continuous provision too. The first lesson is introducing and understanding the story line, it allows the teacher to engage with learners prior knowledge and adapt the further lessons to build-upon this understanding. The second lesson explores the emotions of the characters in more depth, through activities that allow characterisation and role-play, such as hot seating and freeze-frames. The final lesson is assembling all the learning and adapting to independent child-led learning through small world play, whereby the children are able to extend their imaginations and re-tell the story with their own ideas. The educator is able to scaffold this, and observe to understand the learning achieved.
