Answer: Peranakan food often uses chinese cooking methods and local ingredients. Different colours in the food are achieved by using local natural dyes such as pandan, butterfly pea and turmeric to create different colours, which each symbolise different things. The food tends to have different textures based on the dish in question, but can be spicy, creamy, succulent and tender. Many of the dishes also tend to be very labour intensive.
