My favorite is the Koa tree. However due to decades of invasive species, and climate change there are not many plants atop Halealalā. One of the few that can be found at the summit is the Ahinahina. This plant can only be found on the island of Maui and became an endangered species in the early 90s. It was a good place to live because the weather is good, there is a constant water supply, and the land is ideal for growing crops such as the taro plant. When Haleakalā became a national park Native Hawaiians living there were pushed out and the land essiently stolen, leaving many sacred sites unguarded.
