He explains those jets as "two giant hands" that ripped through the sky. This is related to the theme of war because in war people would hurt each other and kill them. These bomber planes that soar through the sky above Montag's home. These jet bombers also symbolize the destruction and harm that war might do to their societies. "There was a tremendous ripping sound as if two giant hands had torn ten thousand miles of black lines down the seam. Montag was cut in half.
