Parvana and her father were at the market to read and write letters for the customers to earn money for their family. 

Parvana couldn’t go to school after the Taliban took over Kabul. 

Parvana remembered the bombs falling to Kabul in her life. Buildings being bombarded were all over Kabul, and her family’s old house had been bombarded.

Father named the mountain “Mount Parvana” using Parvana’s name. The whole family laughed.

Parvana helped her family to fetch the water tank and the bucket, mother and Nooria kept cleaning the cupboard, and Parvana join them, even though she didn’t want to.

Mother remembered Hossain when she put his clothes on the top shelf on the cupboard. Hossain had been the oldest child, and he was killed by a land mine when he was fourteen years old.

Father told the story of Malali. Father and mother made jokes and the family was happy.

Four Taliban soldiers interrupted the house during the family’s dinner. They took Father away and searched in their house. Mother tried to stop them but she couldn’t.

Even though Parvana and her father were making money in the market, they still need to sell things to buy food.

Mother and Nooria couldn’t leave the house without father because the Taliban didn’t allow women and girls to go outside.

Father was arrested by Taliban soldiers because of his foreign ideas, then all of the family members will be unsafe outside the house.

Bombing destroyed Parvana’s home and made Kabul an unsafety place. The family had to move into this small crowded room and survive.

Father and Parvana read letters to make money. They also sell things they don’t need, such as old clothes and dishes.

A family to live without a man will be dangerous because women will be arrested by the Taliban soldier when they went to buy things or earn money.

This is a part of introduction of the whole story, and it tells us about Parvana’s family and their trouble. They needed money and the only man was arrested. Their life turned harder and harder, and the mood became sadder.

They supposed to have a better life in Kabul, safe and happy. But the Taliban came and took over the city. The bombs had destroyed their old house, and Parvana’s brother Hossain was killed by a land mine. The story was at a dark exposition, and they lost Father. They had to try to bring him back, but how?
