For my album review I decided to look at BROCKHAMPTON'S SATURATION II. BROCKHAMPTON is a group of 15 young men who vary their skills between rapping, photography and marketing. The group assembled through the founder Ian Simpson, or better known by their stage name, Kevin Abstract. The group formed in San Marcos, TX which I found to be very cool considering we live in Texas. Their newest album SATURATION II was release back in August and addresses a multitude of different themes. Many of the attitudes that are featured in their music reflects upon the lives of these young men. Looking at elements that Ratliff has spoken about I noticed that BROCKHAMPTON uses repetition quite often. This is seen in both their style of writing and the lyrics, the repetition of a continuous beat, and their overall aesthetic. I also mentioned the Ratliff's idea of wasteful authority and the idea of artists are more powerful when they care less of whether or not they have an audience. BROCKHAMPTON exemplifies this care free attitude, where they act as if they could care less whether or not people listen to them. However it is this attitude that makes their music enjoyable, and what makes it stand out from other rap artists. Overall this "all american boy band" presents itself in such a unique way, and I have a lot of respect for the way they produced their music.
