They put people in prison for ten years if they committed a crime, didn't follow orders, destroyed someone else's land etc..., and six months after they were released from prison they were not aloud a job.

1. To make laborers work harder, there was competition and bonuses to the workers that won.
2. These incentives would not work today because no one would want to repeat something similar to what Stalin and Hitler did.
