August Wilson utilizes Troy to portray the role of the parent during that time period. Troy is strict and has no tolerance for disobedience from his children. Wilson uses Troy to show that a parent must do what they see fits to insure that their child will succeed in life and have all the resources they need to do well. Troy must make challenging decisions that his children may not like but it is what he thinks will help them on the future. I think that the role of a parent is to support their kid and help them learn valuable lessons that will help them thrive. A parent should not be controlling all aspects of their kids life as if it was their own, but they should help them and encourage them when needed. I also think that it is important that a parent listen to their children to hear what they have to say and not just shut them down whenever they try to voice their opinions.

August Wilson uses Troy to portray a view of the role of a parent as a job. Troy is a serious and dutiful man, which can be seen in many interactions, especially with his son. Troy is used to show that parents only have to take care of their children, which means giving them food to eat, a place to live, and a bed to sleep in. Wilson uses these lectures to his son Corey to illustrate this view. I think that the job of a parent is to provide for their children and to prepare them for life. It is important for them to teach them the lessons of life without controlling them. I believe parents need to want what's best for their children, even if that means letting them figure out things on their own.

In Fences by August Wilson, Troy, through his strict and tough character, is portrayed as one who focuses on providing for his offspring and teaching them how to grow into a responsible adult. He implies that the goal of a child should not be for their parents to like them, rather to be thankful for and appreciate everything they do receive from their parent. He puts emphasis on how a man's responsibility lies greatly in providing and being responsible for his family, rather than showing affection. I believe that while it is important for parents to be strict at times and prevent their children from actions that might have a bad outcome or cause their future to suffer, it is also important to listen to them, taking note of their opinions and making them feel loved and as if they belong.

Troy is not the kindest, supporting parent, however, he makes sure his son is well taken care of and prepared for life. He values responsibility and hard work, which he teaches his children. However, Troy doesn't listen to the opinions of his sons, and instead makes decisions based solely on his opinion. This is something I believe a parent should not do. Everyone has a different point of view, and I think parents should at least be aware of what their child thinks. This is because a parent cannot choose the right path for their child if they do not know their opinions. Other than that, I do agree with Troy that it is a parent's responsibility to make sure their child is prepared for the world.

The author is trying to show that a parent's job is to put a roof over their child's head and give them food to eat and they are not necessarily supposed to provide love or care. Troy is trying to build a better future than he had for his son so that could be the reason for him being so strict. I think a parent should do those things like provide a good future for their children and give them resources, but at the same time a parent should also be there to give comfort or support their child's decisions.

In the play, Fences by August Wilson, the author utilizes the protagonist, Troy, to show the parental role of providing and hard work. In Troy's mind, it is a father's role to give their children shelter, food, lessons, and protect them. More specifically, a parent is a provider--which does not include loving, or even liking, children. In my opinion, a parent's role is to contribute to their child'd well-being. That includes providing necessities, like food and a safe environment. That also includes contributing to their child's emotional well-being, which means loving them, protecting them, and making sure they are as happy as they can be. Being a parent, in my mind, goes far beyond the basic human necessities.

Within August Wilson's Fences, Troy Maxson is characterized by his emphasis of familial obligation, illustrated by his conversation with his son, Corey. Despite Troy’s determination to provide for his family, he refrained from telling Corey that loves him in Act 1 Scene 3, and simply says it is his duty. This duty, Troy shows, doesn't require emotion, but stems from fear of replication between Corey’s recruitment and Troy’s ended baseball career. While I admire Troy’s resilience from his father and jail time, I recognize that Troy does not have the same respect for each of his kids. I think a parent needs to understand that it is not the point to live through their child, but live with them. With Troy, he needs to control his fear rather than letting it stop the dreams of those around him.

In Fences, August Wilson utilizes Troy to portray one view of the role of a parent by showing us that back then, a parent provided for his kids because it was their duty and their responsibility. He is not a loving and supporting parent, Troy is strict and hardworking, and he believes that you get a reward for your hard work and not because that person likes you. I personally view the role of a parent quite differently than how Troy does. I believe that a parent should be supportive, kind, and loving towards his kid(s) because the relationship between kids and parents is unique and lasts forever. The son or daughter will also believe believe more in him/herself as he/she'll have more support from the parents. They obviously have to take care of their kids because it's their duty, but they decided to have kids, so they should treat them right and love them, as they are a part of them.

Although most parents are driven to parent by the love that connects them and their child, August Wilson, author of Fences, stresses how lead character Troy Maxson doesn''t even like his son, and parents him out of a moral responsibility. Troy advocates that he and his son share the same relationship and Troy and his boss, where one dominant will provide for the subordinate, and long as he works for it. I contend otherwise, as I think that parenting should be based on the love between a child and their parent. However, I still agree with Troy's statement about not having to like your child. Liking someone is based off their personality and traits, while loving someone is a bond family members and significant others.

This is evidently seen in his altercations with his son Cory, where he explains he has a duty to take care of him, and he does not want Cory to end up like him. August Wilson uses Troy to portray this one role of a parent to show who Troy is as a person, the beliefs he holds, and his experiences with his parents. I believe a parent should be strict, however, parents should also show love and affection to their children, and support their dreams and aspirations, and parents should also listen to their children, to take note of how they feel ,their opinions, and to make sure they feel loved. All of these aspects will ensure that the child feels safe and has a strong mental foundation to further strengthen themself as a person.

Troy strictly believes that his only duty as a parent is to feed, dress, and house his own child, not love, or even like him. I strongly disagree with this form of parenting. A parent should be there to support and love their child without conditions. A parent should be strict to lay some ground rules for the child, but this does not mean taking away from their happiness, or placing fear in the child's mind.

He thinks parents are not obligated to like their children, and all they need to do is provide them with basic needs such as food and clothing. My view of parenting is very different, I would want my child to know that I love them and that I do the things I do from the love in my heart and so that they can succeed in life. I would also want them to pursue their dreams and not be trapped in a job or a situation that would make them miserable.

In the play Fences, by August Wilson, Troy views the parental role as a responsibility and a job that must be stuck to. Troy believes that no matter what he must take care of his family not because he likes it or wants to but because it is his responsibility. I also believe that it is your job to take care of your children but I also think that it is important to show your kids that you love them unlike what Troy does for his kids.

August Wilson uses Troy to show the role of a parent as someone who takes care of their family, but doesn't show how they feel about their kids. Troy repeatedly berates his son for not working and trying to play football. Troy tells his son that he doesn't have to like him, but he has to take care of him. August Wilson uses these patterns to that the role of a parent is to provide for them. I believe that the role of a parent is not only to take care of them but also to help them learn to walk, or ride a bike. A parent should not just provide for their children, they should also show them love and affection.
