My goal was to be able to portray what Lorde showed in her writing along with was she used to create the writings that moved many people's hearts. I made the flowers behind her red, white, and blue to show her American heritage. I made the flowers in front of her pink, orange, and white to show her prominence in the lesbian community and how she would constantly show that side of herself and be proud of it. The pen, ink and paper show the basic materials she used that allowed her to make a big impact. The portrait and the quote are pretty self-explanatory, as Lorde is the center and the reason behind the piece coming together in the first place. The materials I used were watercolors, black ink markers, and a white gel pen. I began with a light outline of the important shapes I would need to watch out for, then completely colored (base colors and shading) the piece. I then went back in to outline and ink what I needed to, and finished off the last details with the white gel pen. My goal was to create a well-fitting scene for my cutout. I really enjoyed working on the pie and I'm very proud of how that came out. If there was something I could fix, it would most likely be the perspective of the floor and the tables.
