unlike some other cases, it is common for one person be called a terrorist by their opponents or a freedom fighter by their supporters. both words imply what the person/group's goals are: either spreading terror or liberation. what word is used to describe depends mostly on the talker's opinion of them. for example taliban fighters in afghanistan were called freedom fighters by american media in 1980's, but once the US invaded afghanistan talibans suddenly became terrorists.

Both of the words name the same person. The difference is that they originate from two different perspectives. One group of people calls the person "terrorist" because in their opinion the only thing that the person does is spreading terror. The other group calls the person "freedom fighter" because from their point of view, the person, even though their actions are harmful to others, does it for a higher purpose. In the first case, the word is used in a "negative" context and its purpose is to label the person as a criminal. The other group, by using the term "freedom fighter", labels the person as someone who generally does good - the world has a positive meaning.

We say goodbye all the time and it's quite simplistic for us. Farewell is more sophisticated, used in high society. We often don't consider its actual meaning - "this bye is good" and "may you fare well". Both are just things that we can say when we part ways with someone. Because the word "fare" is no longer used in everyday life, that's why it isn't considered casual. This extravagance also causes farewell to sometimes be used ironically.

When somebody is being called 'public servant', it is rather a positive term, as it shows the person as somebody who voluntarily helps the society by public campaigns or involvement in politics, while the term 'career politician' is used to describe (mostly negatively) a person who is involved in politics in order and it makes the impression that this person wants to get some benefits.

a) terrorist/freedom fighter - both can be used to describe a person who is fighting for a certain ideas. The main difference are the connotations. It is easy to agree that terrorist has a negative meaning and freedom fighter a positive one. Humans criticize people who inspire fear but praise the idea of freedom. That is why a certain speakers may use one of the words to belittle or embellish the accomplishments of a certain group/person. This is clear language manipulation and it is used daily and can influence the way we can perceive language and the messages it conveys. It is not immoral to manipulate language, it is impossible to say something without any opinion, emotion and connotation. We approach a certain dilemma though. It is often dubious when such a manipulation "crosses the line" and is used to achieve goals that are out of bounds of morality.

c) free speech/hate speech - the overall notion of free speech denotes a situation when any party can freely express their opinion and views. Hate speech is understood as any speech that targets a certain group and wants to belittle them. When free speech is allowed and present, no one can ensure that hate speech will not also appear. Banning hate speech would now mean that we no longer face free speech. Hate speech can also be used as a "buzz word" that is used to justify banning of certain discussions. With such a set up, we will always approach the moral dilemma of how free should speech be and how much should hate speech be censored.
